How do you store a Glass tank?
I have a 75 AGA RR tank that I had to break down, but am unsure about how to store it. The only reasonable place I can put it is in our shed......but it gets REALLY hot out there. The peak outside temp during the summer days can reach 110, so lord only knows how hot it gets in that shed........how would the tank be affected?

You wouldn't happen to need a coffee table anywhere, would you?

You could store it in my living room.
There may be fish and corals and things in it when you need it, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it... Seriously though, I would keep it inside if at all possible...especially if you're talking long term storage. I used to work at Budget Storage and some of our storage units were climate controlled and you can get one as small as 5x5x5 feet. That may be something to look into. |

Realistically the shed should be fine. I have a couple tanks I use periodically that have been in my possession for 20+ years and they weren't new when I got them. They've been stored everywhere from unheated garages here in NW Ohio to my current sunroom. I doubt the shed will cause your 75 any problems.

Do you really need the floor space? If you leave it in place you could convert it to something that is almost zero maintenance, like a miniature zen garden. Then if you want to get the tank going again just add water.
But, like Tim said, the tank will probably survive in the shed. Worst case scenario I can think of is that you may need to re-apply silicone to the joints. Glass, metal, acrylics are immune to any temperature that shed could possibly get to, even in NV, and the silicone will probably be OK too. Chuck |
