For frag plugs: 2.5:1 CaribSea sand / Portland Type II Cement and just enough water to make it a watery/gooey consistency. Fill a shallow container with play sand and wet it down until you can get it compacted well. Use anything you like to make a mold in the sand, pour the cement mixture in, and wait 72hrs for it to dry. Throw the DIY frags in some old pantyhose and place them in the cistern of an often used toilet for a month or so to cure.

As for a hang-on frag rack, I use a 2"in wide 1/8"in thick scrap sheet of acrylic bent to fit the rim of my tank super glued to a 5" x 5" sheet of "eggcrate".

There are hundreds of ways to go about making both, though.

I place rare earth magnets into empty tea-lite candle cups, poured 2 part resin (from Hobby Lobby) over them and stuck in some egg-crate (from Lowe's). After it cured I put felt pads (also from Hobby Lobby) on the side that touches the glass and voila! Frag racks like you get from Mag-Racks.com

I just got a Mag-Float and glued some eggcrate to it. I made a large one about 8" X 4" and a smaller one 4" X 2".

I just bought a shower caddy from Wal-mart that is clear plastic with 2 suction cups and perfect for a frag tray. $4.97 and worth every penny.

I use basic round magnets sold at ACE hardware and cover them with 2 part epoxy puddy (thinner on the glass side) I make them into small disks with an indentation. I hold them up with a bare magnet on the other side and the puddy is waterproof. The hold on the glass of my 65g is strong and is holding up a frogspawn frag nicely.

Best thing, no frag rack in the main disply and the disks puddy into live rock easily (cut out the magnet) once you want to place them.
