Check out this siphon pump
I got one of these siphon pumps to do water changes with. I paid $25 for it and it is worth every cent. It fills up a 5 gallon bucket in about a minute. I did a 30g water change this weekend in 15 minutes!! I ordered one and they sent me a box. I have 30 days to return the rest of the pumps or pay for them. I figured I'd offer them up to my reefer friends before I send them back.

Do you have a link to a website that explains how they work?
Looking at the picture does not help me understand the concept. |

Did a google on it and I now see how it works.
The stiff tube appears to fit into a drum.

I don't. I ordered it from a catalog my husband gets through work. Basically the straight tube that goes top to bottom goes in the tank. The red handle on the top of the pump (right hand side of picture)is what starts the pump. You hold onto it and start moving it up and down. The hose that is flexible goes into a bucket and the pumping action starts the siphon. The water flows from the tank into a bucket. I have 2. One of them I cut the straight tube to fit the heighth of my tank.

I used to use them for chemicals. the red cap on top of the handel unscrews to brake the siphon. That is a great idea.

I called the company to send the box back and she told me that she would let me have them for $15 each if I bought 10 of them. I will bring them to prop if anyone wants them.
