Sponge around my zoas

I was just wondering if this is anything to worry about, I have a sponge growing around the base of some of my zoas. It is the ones on the right side of the rock.

I'm by no means an expert, but I've removed those same sponges from my aquarium before. If you do something to irritate the zoas so that they shrink up, I bet you can just pull the sponge off of them.

We had a very cool yellow sponge around a zoa colony that we got a few months back, the bad news is that as the sponge grew it covered the zoas. My suggestion is to peel the sponge....

I have a similar sponge in a colony of zoas, the zoas seem to be slowly withering away. I have pulled some of the sponge out but I am not able to get it all.

I would carefully remove the sponge as AR_Clint and scorpiocasper said.

Most sponges die fast when exposed to air, zoa however do not. I would leave the rock out for 15 minutes... should kill it off. Just a thought.

I accidentally left some zoa on the counter I did not see when I was transfering tanks for about 5 hours!!!! Put them in the tank and the next day they were open! Ticked off a little but open! Doing much better now.

Ok, I will try to tear the sponge off.
