What will it take for people to understand there are no "LE" or "Exotic" or "Rare" items. There names Internet profiteers use to sell a product. Sometimes wrongfully. This link is a good example of that. They cannot change that picture enough to make that look like a bright green zoanthid. Do you really think when there website says "one available" it's truelly the only one? Buy it. Tomorrow there will be another one.

Rare? But Nuclear Palys are all over the place. Honest, I see them all the time on other sites and here on reef central too. *scratches head*
Rare? If people have Grandmothers who have Chippendale furniture, that furniture is "rare". Nuclear green palys, not rare. Those palys should have "popular", not "rare". Because that's true. Everyone loves those palys, I do too, they're gorgeous and such a nice color of green.

Here's how I understand these terms le, rare and those.
"LE"---Limited Edition or Limited Time Only A term generally used as a marketing incentive for various kinds of products, originally published products related to the arts, such as books, prints or recorded music and films. A limited edition is restricted in the number of items produced. It's something that is typically created, and given or sold for a limited time only. Should it cost more? I'm unsure about this one. Probably so, a bit. Example: Me doing the dishes instead of visiting the reef central forum. Not rare. Not hard to find. But it is a restricted number of times produced. "Hard to Find" These are things that are just that, hard to find. Examples: Tyree chalice corals. Tubs blue zoanthids. A decent condition Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" album from the 1970's. A large colony of nuclear green palys for 10.00. (Hard to find a large colony of them for sale) Rare Rare is a word used to denote (very) low numbers of abundance. It's something that is uncommon, scarce. It can also refer to a rare species, a category in biology designating the scarcity of an organism and implying a threat to its viability. Examples: A ancient fish type of animal, thought to be extinct, found in the deep recesses of an ocean. A diamond and ruby Faberge egg, made by the jeweler "Faberge" for Czar Nicholas and the Russian royal family in 1885. A typhoon in Arizona. Items that are almost non-existent. Popular Example: Armageddon palys Nuclear greens Purple Death Tubs blue Armor of God palys. Notice some belong in more than one category sometimes. Let's say you want some bright green palys for your tank. Well, if you go into the swap section let's say you find some nuclear green palys and you trade for them or buy them. There are many to be seen in the swap/buy/propogate forum sections and on websites right now that look cool. So, you get some, you put them in your tank, you really take care of their water, lighting, food, etc. After awhile they look fabulous, and they grow to a big colony in 10 months. Well, let's say 20 people did that. Are the nuclear palys rare? If they're healthy and they look fab, do the people who grow them deserve props? Absolutely. Are the palys rare though? Are there very few in the aquarium hobby? No. Not in my opinion. If you have a colony now and you decide to sell a couple of larger pieces, are they rare? No, because I can some of these green palys, without buying them from you. I can buy from you, or others. Can I buy a Tyree chalice. Yep. Is it hard to find? Yes. Is it limited edition? No. Is it rare? No. Not in my opinion. Does he deserve props. Absolutely. Is he a guru of chalice growing and coloration? Hella corals, Yes, he is. Is a Tyree chalice rare? No. Or... is Steve Tyree rare? I'd say he's hard to find. *wink*. So, if I were selling some nuclear green palys on Ebay, I would write the header as: "Popular! Insanely colored green palys!" Yeah, its not a Nuclear Green. That was the point. Caveat Emptor translates to Buyer Beware. They are common button polyps available everywhere.

Yea, please, just about ALL sites say "havnt seen one of these in 50 years". Maybe so but I will bet they never looked either. Defnitly do your homework before you buy. I have seen some good deals on green Gonioporas, but, when I preassure them into asking if it is a Neuclear (which IS rare) Goniopora, they say "I am not sure" or " its green" like thats an answer. Funny thing it, thier add says "rare find" or "you dont find them like this".

IridescentLily, hey, I like this. "LE, should it cost more? " Not if it's a polyp that's growing in/on the ocean floor by the thousands. Corals are NOT limited editions. " Hard to Find, Tubs blue zoanthids.? " NOOO, they are everywhere and they are still being labeled HTF. " RARE? ", it's a term I don't use anymore. I use to but I have stopped. You forgot to mention EXOTIC, this is another catch phrase use solely for marketing purposes. Exotic means, " hurry, buy it now" .When prices drop back down to what they were 3 years ago, you won't hear any of these tagged descriptions. Mucho Reef

Oh no lie, Yes, you're right, Exotic, that is a catch phrase Ive seen many times too.
You know what exotic means to me? I remember when i was a little girl, around in the mid-sixties. Sometimes me and my parents would be driving somewhere or around town or whatever, and occasionally we'd pass a certain part of town and I'd see a building with a big flashing sign that said "All nude-exotic dancers" or "Exotic topless dancers", with a little pic of a gal next to it. That's the way they talked in the 60's, it's funny as hell when i think about it. So.. evertime I see "Exotic in with the word zoanthid, all my mind can see is a zoanthid wearing little tiny pasties.

a building with a big flashing sign that said "All nude-exotic dancers" or "Exotic topless dancers", Do you have the address? (wink) Your both very right. Good conversation. Tubs are in no way HTF, I've had hundreds. Most let them go because there extremely small and very tempremental. Now I just let them grow and don't pay any attention to them. They've been around forever. And I was a kid in the mid sixties too. IridescentLily, you must of meant mid seventies, right? Keep it going this is fun.
