Coral Magazine Announcement

CORAL Magazine is now being published by Reef to Rainforest Media in Vermont under license by Natur und Tier-Verlag of Meunster, Germany.

CORAL Magazine is no longer available from EcoSystem Publications, which has cancelled all active subscriptions, effective with the December 2008/January 2009 Issue.

We are now accepting new subscriptions and are adding a free issue for all who sign up for the January/February 2009 Issue.

Among those involved in the relaunch are Anthony Calfo, as Associate Publisher, Daniel Knop as the International Editor, and many Microcosm authors, including Bob Fenner, Matt Wittenrich, Alf Nilsen, Svein Fossa, Denise Nielsen Tackett and Larry Tackett, and others.

Our ad will be appearing on RC shortly, or you can visit this site for more information:

http://www.coralmagazineus.com/

As CORAL's new Editor & Publisher, I will be happy to answer all queries during the relaunch of CORAL.

Happy Holidays James!

Can you tell me if the introductory offer of the first Coral Magazine free only applies to the 1 year subscription or does it also apply to the 2 or 3 year subscriptions?

Thanks,

James Dawson

James,

We are starting all new CORAL subscriptions with a free issue, including the 2-year and 3-year choices.

The first issue (Jan/Feb) is looking great.

Happy Holidays to you, too.

James Lawrence,
Editor & Publisher

Thanks
Ray

Any chance you can do a offer for international subscriptions for the same period?

I subscribed! Thanks to an email I got from Antony.

I wonder if the format, quality, will change any with this change?

It has been such a great magazine.

I still miss Marine Fish Monthly though!

James,

I received my copy of the January/February 2009 issue of Coral magazine yesterday. It's very nice, just like it has always been.

When I subscribed, you were only offering a one-year subscription for $37. I would like to show my support by upgrading to the three-year subscription for $90. Is that possible?

I still haven't received a refund from Eco System Aquarium for the full year's subscription renewal that they owe me. I had just called them in October to renew. I have been a subscriber since the very beginning. I sent them another email today -- my fourth in the last seven weeks -- asking them why I haven't received the refund I requested but so far they have not replied to any of my emails.

They sent out that unsigned letter the beginning of December advising us that they had severed their relationship with Koralle and that they were in the "process of designing" a new magazine that they hoped would be ready for publication sometime this spring. Maybe.

I only found out by accident that Coral was still being published in an American edition but by a new publisher. I happened to come across that information is a thread on one of the boards.

Ninong,

Sure, we would be happy to upgrade your subscription.

We have heard from numerous former CORAL subscribers that EcoSystem Aquariums are not honoring the offer to deliver refunds.

I can assure you that all of us involved with the new CORAL have tried to get your names and to serve your remaining issues for free.

If you will send me a private message, we will try to help out.

I'm tired of fooling around with these clowns at Eco System Aquarium. I just filed a complaint with American Express. I charged the $37.50 renewal to my AmEx card in September. The renewal was to begin with the December/January issue, so they owe me a refund of the entire $37.50.

Now they will be forced to respond to the American Express inquiry or their relationship with American Express could be in trouble.

Done.

Will the retailers that previously carried the magazine remain their ability to sell the magazine? I really love the magazine and pick it up at my favorite LFS, but that is 2 1/2 hours away. He typically holds the issues for me until I arrive.

I would love to subscribe and have it sent to my home, but the local USPS loves to bend, mangle and otherwise destroy any publication that I have sent to me. I once had Eco systems mail me several back issues, they all (eight issues) arrived in a single envelope bent in a useless "U" shape. Talk about a waste of $80!

Bill,

We are eager to get magazines to all LFS that want to carry CORAL. They can order online easily here:

http://www.coralmagazineus.com/category_s/27.htm

OR They can call Josh Willborn to set up an account: 838-330-9848

(EcoSystem has declined to pass along any store account lists, or subscriber lists, so we are starting from scratch.)

We are using a new printer (Dartmouth Printing in Hanover, NH), and I hope we can provide better service on mailing.

Cheers,

James

I think you should send a free copy to everybody who was a subscriber. I am hesitant to resubscribe without seeing the product first. Let me say that I LOVED this magazine, but am disappointed that I have to deal with this hassle.

Yes, it is a hassle, but the hassle was caused by Eco System Aquarium.

I can assure you that the January/February 2009 issue is exactly the same as the previous issues. I have already read every page.

As for the idea of a free issue, that's exactly what the new publisher has done. All new subscribers will receive a free issue when they subscribe: seven issues for the price of six. There is no way that they can mail out a single free issue to all of the previous subscribers because Eco System refuses to give them the subscriber list.

As a subscriber, since the first issue, I can tell you that I was very disappointed to receive that ridiculous unsigned letter from Eco System. Their explanation for why they decided to sever all ties with Koralle was completely bogus. And since when has it been accepted business practice to send out unsigned letters?

Once I learned that James Lawrence was going to take over as the new publisher, I immediately subscribed. I sent a total of four emails to Eco System requesting a full refund of my $37.50 subscription. I had just renewed with them when they sent me the postcard in September reminding me that my subscription would expire after the October/November issue. So my renewal subscription was due to begin with the December/January issue, the one they failed to have printed.

My first three emails to Eco System (over a seven-week period) were completely ignored. My fourth email generated an insulting response from someone in their office telling me that I shouldn't be sending them emails to inquire about my refund because their unsigned letter informed me that they intended to take up to 90 days to process refunds.

My response to their email informing me that I must wait at least 90 days for a refund apparently hit a nerve. Or maybe they received the inquiry from American Express. I filed a complaint with American Express right after I received that insulting email. In any case, I received an email response from Leng Sy's iPhone yesterday informing me that he was very sorry that my emails to his office had gone unanswered and promising to "look into this and refund your money next week." He's in Orlando right now attending a trade show.

I expect to receive a full refund before the end of this month. If I don't, then I guess I could always file a complaint with the USPS since their product is delivered via the USPS. It's amazing what an inquiry from a postal inspector can do.
