I caught my RBTA splitting - Got Pics!

I posted this in my Local Forum Area here on RC but figured that I would post it here as well for all to enjoy.

I'll try to make a long story short:

One of my RBTA's split about a week and a half ago. I planned on selling both of the new ones. I gave them about a week to heal before I attempted to remove them from the tank. Yesterday I pulled the rock out that both of them were attached to and tickled them off the rock.

One was immediately picked up by a buyer and the other one was put into an acrylic box with some flow going into it while I made arrangements for it to be picked up. It was only going to be in the box for a day or two.

Well, several hours ago I walked in to check on it and it was almost completely split AGAIN. I grabbed the camera and got a couple of shots of it figuring that you don't get to see this too often. I wish I would have walked in on it sooner so I could have gotten pics of the whole deal but this is what I got.

I don't believe anyone knows why these things split. There are numerous theories out there.

I'm starting to lean towards stress as one of the triggers.

So it is not necessarily the size of them that causes this? How big was this one before it split?
