Bleaching is caused by a large change in lighting conditions. If your store had it under PC's or was in transit for a day or 2 then you plotted it right under your 250's it will kill off some of the hosting algae and cause the clam to bleach. Or it could be the opposite. Your store could have had it under a 250 MH in a 10 gallon tank and now 20" below your light is too little light. I would try to mimic what conditions it was under in the store then slowly move it to where you want it to be.

Mscarpena is right, its lighting related, and is most frequently linked with an increase in lighting. If its a recent addition, try moving it downwards to let it recouperate. Same goes if you've recently changed your bulbs, etc.

posting a picture would be the best.
many times maximas have the appearance of centralized bleaching when viewed from an angle, while they are perfectly fine. bleaching can be caused by many variables but centralized bleaching is usually caused by light shock due to a rapid increase. can you tell us a bit more of the story.... when did you get him? any lighting changes?? a picture is really the best and most important info you can provide. |
