MSX 300/350 vs. Hurricone Cat 2
I've got a roughly 200 gal SPS tank that I'm trying to overskim. I've narrowed my choices down to the MSX 300, 350, and the Hurricone Cat 2 Internal. What are the performances relative to each other? Would the 350 outskim the Hurricone? Would the drop off in the 300 performance be pretty steep from the 350/Hurricone?
Thanks guys |

I am not a huge fan of the Octopus/MSX 300, as I feel it could use more air than what the two pumps can safely and efficiently provide. The Extreme 350 has an addition of an extra pump and longer neck and is more comparable to the Hurricone CAT 2. The only drawback to the Extreme line is the pumps. The Hurricone uses a real performer when it comes to skimmer pumps and provides a ton of air with a pin wheel, so no mesh needed. Now the Hurricone CAT 1 would be a better fit for a 200 gal system. A larger skimmer doesn't necessarily mean you will get better skimming result. Most of the time is the quite opposite. If I were to use a skimmer on my 200+ gallon system I would choose to go with a Hurricone CAT 1 or an Octo Extreme 250.
