I'm chillin...
Got the chiller hooked up to my Solana. Ordered from marinedepot.com and they had it at my house the next day with free shipping.
![]() ![]() Only took about 20 - 30 minute to install. I replaced the stock Solana pump with a Rio 1100, running it to the chiller then back to the stock return in the tank. Flow feels a little less than stock was, and the water level sits a little lower in the tank, so i will probably look for a more powerful pump that will still fit in the small space in the Solana. I fired the chiller up at 3:32am, tank temperature was 81.1 degrees. By 4:32am, tank temperature was 77.1 degrees, and the metal halide was on the whole time. I woke up this afternoon and the tank was 74.3 degrees. Too cold, so I've adjusted the themostat and now its sitting at 77.2 on my tank thermometer, chiller is set at 79. I think I'll leave it there. Now that everything is squared away, its time to add some livestock

What size of tubing is necessary for this chiller? I am going to get me one in the next couple of weeks and cant seem to find that info anywhere. Also I need a pump for it too right? Thanks for your time.

Yes the tubing size is 1/2". I bought 10' of it and had a little left over.
I just replaced the Rio 1100 with a Mag 5. Now the flow feels the same as the stock pump did before adding the chiller, and my water level in the tank is sitting the same as it was before. I think the Mag 5 is the correct pump to use for this. The Mag 5 is probably the biggest pump that will fit inside the Solana chamber, and its more quiet than the stock pump as well. |
