Show off your Pico!

Hello everyone,

I never feel like I get to see enough pico-reefs represented in the forums, so I would like this to be a thread where people can show off their amazing mini reef environments, and where people can get information about what works in a pico-reef.

For the purpose of this thread, let's keep all tanks 5 gallons and under.

Cheers, and happy posting!

This is my pico....

As you can see, it needs some work! I have had it sitting around forever and have finally gotten around to putting it together. Its going on my desk at work, so this should be fun.

I hope it never catches on, I like having the oldest tank on here and I don't have to worry about calcification, bio pellets, Vodka dosing, DSBs, Chaetomorpha (I don't even know what that is) Carbonite hardness and all of these other things many people worry about.

If I had to think about all of that stuff I would get a stroke.
My test kit came in a wooden box and the directions say to keep in a cool chariott.
I throw some food in the tank, wave hello to the fish and go out with my wife and have a nice glass of merlot with dinner.
Have a great day but most of all, have fun.

Oh, and thank God the Yellow Clown Goby committed suicide, he all the sudden decided to start eating the polyps on my orange digi. It has lost all of its color. Since he took a jump (only been 4 days) it has already started looking better.

Nice looking pico spsfreak. I have seen yours in other threads and it always looks amazing. It really shows what you can do!

1DeR9_3Hy, is that a kit, or individually purchased parts?

audio101,

I really like the look of your pico! I bet it will look even better as everything grows in. The red macro is a nice, and interesting, touch. Do you have any fish/inverts in there?

joncat24,

Your pico is looking good! I like the look of JBJ's Picotope, but I am thinking about starting a pico with the Tom Aquatics 2gal Deco as it's stock light and filter look workable. How long has it been up?

It's a 3g picotope.

I have a yellow watchmen goby, 1 sexy shrimp, 1 peppermint shrimp and a boxer crab.

Don't get the tom deco, it's cheap acrylic that scratches VERY easily. I would do the JBJ and upgrade to a 12" current usa light fixture.

Good to know. I was wondering if it was acrylic or glass, and I couldn't find the specs. That's a bummer, but the extra gallon will be nice!

Joncat,

I just noticed that the bolts on the clamp which is holding on your lights are submerged. Will they rust/foul up your water over time or are they somehow treated?

No, the legs and bolts are plastic. They are a little large for the tank, but they were available so I used them....lol

The pico has been set up for about a month now.

Wow, one of the best Pico tanks I have ever seen. I admire the people that can keep these systems stable. So much more work then the larger systems.
