Emptying the cup
I'm a proud new owner of a 2nd gen 100 (I got lucky with the last one in stock from premiumaquatics
). I got it in this friday (great shipping) and put it in some live rock im curring. in minutes it pulled out some nice gunky stuff in its first cup. Sunday I will put it to good use in my 50g with 15g refug., replacing my small but loyal CPR backpack. My question is, what is the best way to empty the cup? right now I'm turning off the skimmer, empty cup, then power up. I was thinking of also trying, lowering the foam level, empty cup, then readjust the foam level again. SUGGESTIONS?????? II vertex 100.jpg |

Ive always emptied my skimmers while I fed. the feeding collapses the foam tower so you dont need to worry abot adjusting or turning anything on or off.

There really is no wrong way, But it has been suggested and I believe it to be a good Idea-- That you should turn off your skimmer every time. This will allow water into the air line/ventri. Salt deposits often build -up there and this helps wash them away
![]() (ro/di water run into your airline 2-3 x weekly helps alot also) If you just want to turn down the level, while cleaning cup, use a marker pin on wedgepipe, so you know exactly were that sweet spot was!

Sadly, 2 weeks into a great experience with my new Vertex IN-250 the resun pump has died.
I'll see what I can do about a replacement in the morning. I noticed it was making a bit of a vibration yesterday, by today it what really making noise and not pumping enough to make the skimmer function... And I just sold my old skimmer today |

Well, from what I've read they are very good about replacing pumps as some of the Resun pumps have been found to be defective.

putz if you ordered it from premiumaquatics or marinedepot it shouldn't be a problem getting it replaced. i haven't heard too many stories of pump failures on the 250, sorry it had to be you

I am about to pick up a used in-280 tomorrow for $250. I have yet to see the skimmer and the guy says he only used it in 2 mos. Who has got one and what are your thoughts about the skimmer. It is going to 180 gallon mix reef. total water of 200 gallons.
Thanks Noel |

I just bought a used in80 and set it up on my tank. Seems to be pulling air well, but its also kinda loud. I read that these things run almost silent. It was sold to be as a gen2, but when I look online at pictures, gen2 impellers are black. Is my white impeller a gen1 and if so, should I just go ahead and mesh mod it? Will it be quieter or do I need to buy a new impeller as well, because everyone seems to be sold out. Thanks.

You could do the mod and pick up the new impeller when they come in. It seems that the Vertex line is becoming quite a hit as everyone is starting to sell out of skimmers and parts. Hopefully that's a good thing.

I just ordered the gen 2 impeller. Took me all afternoon to find someone that had them, and they only had 3 in stock. Everyone else said that they would be 6 to 8 weeks. I think tommorow I will mesh mod this one for the hey of it since I have the new pin coming anyway.

I just got an IN-80 from premium aquatics and it doesn't look like yours. Mine doesn't have the cap on top of the wedge pipe, and the airline doesn't go into it either. Does that mean that I got a gen 1 or something??

ok 2 months into having the in 180 still loving it, but really feel the pump isnt enough for it, having to close pipe 3/4's of the way, tempted to get the next size up skimmers pump and try it out

So does that mean I'm just missing items? My airline isn't long enough to go all the way up to the cap like the one above, so it just seems fishy.

You could contact Jeremy at premiumaquatics to see if the 250 pump fits. As others here, I wonder if a different pump would work better..?? I hope the Bubble blaster pump, I ordered to day will fit

Don't you guys think running the airline hooked up to the elbow restricts the air flow? I am running mine not connected right now and hooked up the air meter and getting about 27 lpm. Is that what you I am supposed to get out of this pump?
