The Elos System Project
So I had an idea and hopefully this will work. If it doesn't, at least I will have a very nice aquarium in my office entryway
With less and less time to check/update the forums with pictures, comments and explanations I thought it would be a good idea to concentrate on one completely Elos related thread that I would be forced to update. What better way than to construct an, "interactive" all Elos system in my warehouse? So the plan is simple. Start a build thread on an Elos system and accept input from other Elos USA forum viewers and Elos owners. During the process, I will do my best to explain Elos products in a bit more detail. What I don't want, is the typical, "mine is bigger/better than yours" thread. While I make it a point to let just about anything go on the Elos USA forum, I will have posts that are not constructive removed on this particular thread. What I am looking to do is pull from the talent and creativity of this community and make something unique with our products. While I enjoy forums, I see so much misinformation on Elos products and while we go through this together it will give me a chance to explain what we attempt to do at Elos. So this is the concept, so now down to the details.- I will provide the Elos equipment and I will be the guy doing the grunt work, for the most part. Occasionally I get some Elos installers in the warehouse and if they visit me, you can be sure they will be put to work -The livestock I will purchase from Elos retailers or Elos owners only and I will provide their contact information in this thread so we know where the,"stuff" is coming from. - On occasion, I will ask for a vote on certain decisions about, equipment, livestock, additives, etc. I will have final veto power in the event that the majority wants something that I simply can't walk by everyday I don't expect this to happen judging from all the great build threads in our forum but I had to put that out there.-After it is done I will update and upgrade as new stuff comes available. -As a little carrot to keep you interested. I will note the suggestions about possible improvements for Elos products and add these to our meetings for new products. IF any of these make them to next years Interzoo (that were not already in development), I will contact you through this thread and let you know what you won. The prize will match the suggestion and I will limit the winners to 5 individuals. So let us get started. Here is the location. It is right when you walk in the office and my office is directly behind this wall: As you can see I have an empty new Elos 120, which I love but I have room for a bit bigger. The next size up is the Elos 120xl but the entryway is not a big room and the 120xl is very deep, 31.5" and that will just take up too much room. The size after that is the new 160 and this one would fit perfectly. So what do we want to do, the 120 or the 160? Here are the arguments for each, as I see it: 120 (48x22.5x20 approx 90 gallons) -very manageable size. Easier water changes and easier to work in. -now comes with the larger NS1000 - Can keep a wide variety of fish but might not be so good for the larger stuff. - easier/ cheaper to light. I know who cares, it isn't your money, but take it easy on me. Despite what I have read, we work on VERY low margins so it is still expensive on this end as well - I love the size now that the 120 is deeper. System 160 ( 63x22.5x24 approx. 147 gallons) - Elos "large tank build" with multi pane double layer bottom. This is used in 120xl and up. Remember I am in earthquake country and it is great if we did bare bottom, which we won't, but worth mentioning for those that ask about this. - More swimming room for the bigger stuff. - More fun and more expensive to light. - A sump and a dry side in the stand. So what do think. I will put the system we decide on in place tomorrow at 6pm, so post your size preference and a brief explanation of why or anything else, if you want. One last picture of the new 120 depth.

My vote would be for the Elos 120. I think that it will give you plenty of room to arrange the livestock as you wish. With the new 22.5" width, you will have plenty of space on the sand for corals. The biggest advantage to the larger size tank would be the length of the tank for the fish, such as Tangs. IMO, smaller fish would really stand out in the Elos 120. Either way, it is going to look great.

well Jesse if you are aiming toward the picture in the tank you will have to lean toward the larger of the two tanks. tell us this are there any fish that you favor? as for the earthquakes i dont think i would feel comfortable with anything other than the tank with the added pane.

I have a better idea, send me everything so I can set it up at home and will update daily. JK. AWesome idea Jesse. I would go with the 160 for the bullet proof bottom.
I like the part about getting corals from Elos only tanks. Let me know if you want anything. |

Great Idea.. I am really interested in more information regarding the various Elos Products..
My vote goes with the 160. The larger tank will give you more options when it comes to aquascaping. In addition you will be able to have more fish and coral... |

How about running the Purist Line? Run the Filtra M through a REA unit, and use some of your peristaltic pumps to add RB20, 40, and 50. I don't know many people running this and those that do have had issues. I've been successful with it and I'm sure you can too.
What about feeding the tank with C1 and C7? I'd still like to try some and maybe with you sharing your experiences there would be more call for it. |

Great idea Jesse, and for you, why not? I vote for the 120 though; easier to maintain. If the big earthquake strikes, any tank may be history anyway. That 120 in the photo seems perfect for the space. The cheaper lighting option seems like a positive too.

I vote for the 120 there are already a whole bunch of really cool 160's on this forum lets see something different and if the big earthquake comes the last thing we will be worrying about is a fish tank

Did I mention the 160 was more expensive? 120 voters, I love your thinking! Having said that, I am prepared for the inevitable

I think I'm partial to the 120, but deep down the 120XL.

If you plan on keeping that many tangs in the picture, I think you're better off with the 160XL.
I'm for the deeper width tank but since you said you can't fit it, I would vote for the 160.

What a great idea Jesse !!!
![]() My first suggestion is to MAKE THIS THREAD A STICKY ( that is definetely a prize worthy suggestion ) Although the 160 will offer the oportunity for more expression, I would question it if it 'overwhelms' the visual space in your entry way. I feel that a very important aspect of Elos is the way you can integrate the products to fit into your homes decor. The location of the tank and its relation to other pieces of furniture you may have in the room and even the way the choice of door color/material ties into your office countertop are of paramount importance. That way when a potential customer walks in and sees it, they can easily visualize it as another element of their homes' furnishings and not just a 'glass box' in the middle of their livingroom. I also would like to second Brickys suggestion about using the purist line. It is something that I feel is one of elos most under-rated products. The only good piece of info on it was the one provided by Danillo, and it would certainly be good to see you demonstrating its use in thread form. ( I personally would never start another tank without it !)

I say the 120! To me the 120 just fits perfectly right there in that spot. It was meant to be there.

No, I am not going to carry Elos salt in the US. There are a lot of good salts out here and I think it is best to concentrate on some of the other things we do before we do that. I actually just ordered a pallet of Marine Environment, so I will use this on this project. I used to use Tropic Marin and then I switched to Bio Sea a few years ago and it has always been steady for me and the shipping is cheap, as their warehouse is pretty close to my warehouse.

3:16pm PST and the count is:
160-9 120-6 A lot closer than I thought. We have less than 3 hours and then on to cabinet color and then layout ideas, there will be 3 different layouts I will offer. The layouts will be accompanied by a lighting option. I will say that I tend to agree that the 160 is large for the room but not overwhelming.

The 160 in the same location.
The doors are not installed just leaned in front of the 160 for color.

The subliminal "Biotopus II" message was not intended.
