How do I know if I have a Gen2 Mp40w and not Gen1?

How do I know that I have a Gen2 MP40w Vortech and not a Gen1? My box does not have the gold sticker on it. Please let me know. Thanks

Several ways to check. First have a look at the wet side magnet. If it looks metallic, it's probably a Gen 1. The newer magnets are completely black and the drive shaft & bearing config is slightly different.

Another way is to check the firmware status, although that's no guarantee since the driver could have new firmware and old magnet, but that would be highly unlikely. To see what firmware version is on your driver, unplug the power supply and then plug it back in after a few seconds. Be ready to count the number of LED blinks on pump start up. This info is available in the owner's manual. It should flash one red, then a green, then a number of blue. Green is the major revision status and blue is the minor revision number. So one green flash and four blue would put the firmware at 1.4.

I'm sure Tim will provide a better answer or correction to my info, but today is Sunday and EcoTech generally monitors this forum during the work week only.

Mike's got it down. The easiest way to tell is the silver Gen2 embossed logo on the box or the black plastic coated magnet. If you have a stainless steel screw and nut, you've got Gen1.

Im confused here. My box doesn't have the embossed seal. But it was sold to me as Gen 2.

Is this a Gen 1 or 2? Mine has this lil metal screw on the wetside infront of the propeller.

Thanks

I just took my Vortech wetside out of the water and the black nut that sits ontop of the propellor is black and not silver. I guess this means I have a Gen 2?

Reefer08-

In your post above you say that you have a metal screw but in your post below you say you have a black nut. I'm a bit confused and think you may have a Gen1 that's been upgraded improperly to Gen2.

What's the serial number of your pump? That will make it easy to figure this out.

I searched the entire pump both wetside and dry side and could not find a serial number. I removed the pin spacer and did not find any serial number.

On the white controller it says FCC ID: UKB271828
IC: 7349A271828

Sorry about the confusion, it is a black nut that sits ontop of the propeller. If their is a different serial number please tell me where to find it!

Thanks

The serial number is on the left hand side of the driver. The numbers you provided are not the serial number.

The magnet will either be black or metallic colored. If it's black you have a Gen2, if not, Gen1.
