Drilling a Red Sea Max?

The search function doesn't seem to work going back more than about a month so I can't find if there are any threads on drilling an RSM. I want to add a sump to mine. Anyone know if the glass on the back or preferably on the bottom is tempered? Anyone have a link to any "drill" threads for the RSM?

Does anyone know?

I want to drill my RSM and I'm getting conflicting info on whether it's tempered or not. Thanks.

That's what I already have. It failed in December causing $1125 in water damage to the apartment ceiling below me.

Other people have and received conflicting information from their customer service. Maybe I will try contacting them myself.

Holy smokes, sorry to hear that, I actually was looking into these...
Did it fail becuase they didn't build it strong enough? I'm considering using one of these for my 29 Biocube http://premiumaquatics.com/aquatic-s.../ES-10100.html

What do you think?

you should have to have the overflow to low in the chamber just enough to get the water out and the over flow box still shold have water in it to keep the siphon active for when the power goes on and off

You can drill it, I drilled mine and it has been running well without problem for more than six months. I will post some pics here in a few.

oh ya baby lets see the pictures so what did you use a basic 90 from the bulkhead or just left it open?
And where did you drill it at.

Finally, Here are the pics. Had family visiting and couldnt surf rc earlier!

Here's the hole I drilled for 1.5" bulkhead using standard glass-cutting holesaw

another view, cut it in the bathtub using showerhead to run water over the cut

Here's my drainpipe. Yes the bulkhead is monted backwards, did that so it can be removed easily if the tank has to be moved. And, yes it has worked flawlessly without leaking.

The only other mods i had to do were to block off the holes for the stock return pumps and run a pvc return into the tank. I also glued a piece of plastic behind the overflow fins to keep the water level up higher. maybe they make a better pre-skimmer/overflow so you dont have to do this, i dont know.

the 90 would have been a good idea to keep it quiter, but i couldnt fit a 90, or even the bulkhead down into the filter area.

Dude that is brilliant what about cutting back the bulkhead that you put into the inside then a 90 would would and you could then adjust how much water you want to back drain into the sump area.

Probably I could have spent a lot more time engineering it better, but It was setup quickly as a QT tank originally.

Why did you decide to drill into the middle chamber and not the return chamber? Is there a reason why the drill hole is so high? Is there a possible way to use the stock return holes with the sump?
