Yes, it works fine and is a nice sup to activated carbon.

It helps control ammonia, nitrates, nitrites. I takes impurities out of the water & keeps the water nice & clear.

However, its still easy on the trace eliments needed in the tank.

I have also been using a product called PURA-COMPLETE. The MFG says that you only have to change it out every 6 months. I still change it every 6 to 8 weeks.....just because

Never used pura complete.

I use purigen as Boomer recommends to supplement granulated activated carbon. Carbon absorbs certain organic compounds. Purigen also abosrbs organic compounds and may absorb a different variety than carbon. The organics are absorbed before they completely breakdown so elements in them including nitrogenous waste are removed.

PURA-COMPLETE is really like a mix of Purigen & carbon. It works pretty good......I used to use Purigen as well as Carbon.....I dont see a real difference. Just a different product

Pura complete is carbon, GFO (pura phoslock) and cation exchangers. It has nothing simular to purigen in it. its most simular to chemi pure elite.

You are correct Stan and TMZ

Purigen is not an ion-exchanger and but an organic absorber where it can be recharged by "burning" out the organics with bleach. Pura has ion exchangers in it which are USELESS in seawater. Meaning, it is a water softener with ion exchange resins that work like a DI....aka..........another "snake-oil" product for seawater. Imagine how quickly a DI resin would be gone in seawater.

I use it in a fine mesh bag in a canister filter where I run some carbon and polypad too. I have used it in a bag in a high flow area of the sump.
