Reef Octopus Extreme 160 or Warner Marine AS150?
I am basically deciding between these two skimmers... Which one do you recommend? Why? Any pros or cons for either?
I am not very smart when it comes to skimmers... Only ever had a couple of remora HOB skimmers... So this is all gibberish to me. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! |

i had a msx 300 extreme its was great skimmer, a better wattage and it cost less than half of the price of warner marine as 300
but i think warner marine is built a lot better

do the as-150...and I never look back...I was on the same boat. I was deciding on the exact same two. Got mine at Toms, he basically broke it down for me, Both great skimmers..but...the sicces pumps take a little more wattage and the dont like to be turned on and off during water changes..aka..pumps go out faster. Correct me if Im wrong doesnt the xtm 160 have 2 pumps vs. the WM. or i think it was the Oct 200...I now have the AS-150, takes a long while to break in, but once it does, its skimms stuff like crazy..If you go WM, make sure you have the new silencer and the suction cup for the base...GL Austin

I have had both.
The WM is nice, it was just to BIG for me (sump). I now have a Extreme 160 Nice, it works very well. JMO

I have Octo Extreme 200 on my 150gal. they are doing great with Meshmod.
If you want, got with extreme 200 instead of 160.

Go for the Warner Marine. Much better than any Octopus. My AS200 skims like crazy, I get 1 cup each day of dark skimmate. In 4 days the collection cup is full.
Only bad thing about the AS series is that they release a lot of microbubbles. But my baffles prevent any from entering my display tank so I don't mind. |

WM makes great skimmers, they are made in the USA and the owner offers awesome support.
