APEX Aquabus Cable

Is the Aquabus Cable a straight computer USB cable that you would find at Best Buy. The max length that I can find from Neptune is 15 ft. Spec say upto 200 ft but I can not find even a 50 ft Aquabus cable to buy. So has anyone tried a regular USB cable.

Yes, they are plain USB cables but not the 'cheap' thin ons especially if you are going far and NEVER the cables with any kind of built-in repeaters.

Here is one source. http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10303

You want Male-A to Male-A using a combination of extenders and adapters.

Any other suggestions? I need a 50 or 60 foot cable as well.

I haven't used them but...

$1 / foot and they make anything.

In the build tool, after you put in the type of connectors (Male A on both ends), and the length of the cable, it asks you whether you want the cable joined with a "Ferrite Bead" or a "Flex-Fusion". Which one would you suggest? Does it matter if it's in the middle or the ends? Incidentally, the price for a 60' cable is only $50. I'm going to order one as soon as I get an answer to the above question. Great link, Ken!

I'd think the ferrite bead would be best for some amount of protection for interference but the design of the AquaBus is such that it might not make a difference. I'll ping Curt and get back to you...

Piece of cake. I just ordered a custom 60' cable from USBFireWire.com for $50, a 15' cable for $17, and a 10' cable for $13. Shipping is $8.50 and they say it will ship in 24 hours. If I have any problems with the cables, I'll post it here, and if I don't post again it means they arrived and worked just fine.

Another RC-er here ordered a long cable from them several weeks ago, and he posted that he was quite pleased with the product.

Good to know, Russ. If anyone else orders from them, be sure and mention it's for an AquaController Apex, otherwise they'll have issues with the length being too long for the USB spec. I spoke with an engineer there and they are familiar with the Apex, so as long as you mention it in the comments section it wont delay your order.

To my knowledge they are not the same. The pins are different and putting a usb cable into the connection will mess things up.

Aquabus cables physically are plain old USB cables. The signals and DC voltage of AquaBus are what is different than USB. Plugging a USB *device* into an Aquabus port is the no-no.
