Sand Dollar Monti

Where in your tank do you keep your sand dollar monti? I've moved mine around a few times as it seems to have trouble settling in. For now, I have it under low light and medium flow.

Thanks,

Eric

what's your lighting? most monti's will do fine with medium to high light....just set it and let it be. Corals will set in eventually, but moving them all the time will bother them.

I'm running T5s. I've found some of my encrusting montis prefer lower lighting. Just curious what others have done.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure the SD monti is truly a montipora.

I'd keep it low in the tank, it likes a lot of flow too.

I agree it looks a lot like a Porites due to its larger polyp size and recessed polyps. However, I think it is a M. Venosa (see here: http://www.botany.hawaii.edu/basch/u...ri/coral82.htm).

I purchased this M. Venosa a while back from DD, which has different coloration (same pink polyps, but green base), but appears to have the same coralite and polyp structure. Both are very cool pieces.

I don't think it's a venosa. I have a wild purple piece and the polyps are not as bushy as the sanddollar. If you look at the polyps of the sanddollar under med flow it is quite 'hairy'.

Since it might not be sps, you do not need to give it too much light. Although i have mine about 25 inches under a 400w 20k radium.

mcliffy2 nice piece btw.

Thanks for the responses. I moved the SD Monti into higher flow and it already looks much happier.
