Kataro's Biocube 29G builb

I'm officially addicted to Saltwater now.... Put plans for my 40G planted tank aside and started a 29G reef.

Just finished putting on the hanging light fixture for the Giesemann Light. Still need some finishing touches but dont got time or energy today.

Flow for the tank will be Maxi-Jet1200 as return pump, and a Vortech MP10, I will add another Koralia Powerhead if needed later on.

Filtration will be live rocks in the main display. I'm aiming for atleast 30lbs but will probably have more. and There will probably be a DSB (Deep Sand Bed 4") in some parts of the tank and that will serve in the denitrification process.

There are 3 Chambers behind this so. 1st chamber will be Purigen / Carbon / all that good stuff. 2nd Chamber will be a Skimmer powered by a RIO 800 RVT. and 3rd Chamber contain Stealth 100W heater and Maxi-jet 1200 return pump.

Light is Giesemann Basic HQI fixture 150W with a Radium 20k DE bulb. This thing weight 20lbs and Im gonna need to mod it somehow to allow ventilation.

Aquascape will come later on when I find more rocks... Here's some pic for now.. sorry for lengthy word post!~

And dry rocks I'm using for aquascape... going rock shopping to look for some with the same texture as these.

Btw I'm still deciding on my Aquascape so if you have any suggestions that'd be much appreciate!

Build it. Got some Conduit pipe and bend it, drilled it, and hang it

Set it up in my room so I can regulate temp in the summer.

Put in Egg Crate so rocks dont touch the bottom glass

1st Chamber - Heater
2nd Chamber - Sapphire BC29 Skimmer and there will be a Media basket
3rd Chamber - Return Pump MJ1200

Water!!!! Please excuse the crappy rockscape =( Waiting to get more live rocks and fix my sandbed

Just noticed my tank is off by 1/16" or 1.5/16"... the front is lower the than the back... Im draining tank tomorrow and removing the 4 legs at the bottom so tank is sitting just on its base and i will put shim on the front so it level out... good idea or no?

Some new photo... slight adjustment to the rocks... probably will continue as the tank mature. Right now the top is all flat for SPS.

Some hitchhikers..

Ammonia / Nitrite / Nitrate been 0 for about a week now.

I have a couple hermit and 2 turbo in there atm.. CUC will be going in there in about 2-3 weeks.

However I'm having Micro bubbles issue, Using the Sapphire BC29 skimmer with a Rio 800 RVT. And my return pump is MJ1200.. At the first day it was epic bubbles... now it decrease alot but there is still some, what can I do to fix it? or does the equipment need a few more weeks to "slime up"

Ph - 8.1
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
Phosphate - ??? (last time I got it check at LFS it was excellent (forgot #)
Calcium - 420
Alk - 8-9
Temp 78-79F

Chamber 1 - Heater
Chamber 2 - Filter Floss --> Chemipure ---> Purigen / Sapphire BC29 Skimmer (been pulling out some nice tea)
Chamber 3 - MJ1200

Some pictures.... moved some of my SPS that was looking bad in my other tank (lightning issue I believe) and they started to change color and extend polyps out more now. And toss some of my corals that I had laying around on the sandbed to the new tank....

Got a rather big mini-colony of this SPS today... mainly cause I want the crab that was in it =)

Acclimating SPS on sandbed (They browned out but coming around now)

Got this Efflo Frag from my LFS for free. Purple tip with white polyp, cant wait for it to grow!

LPS -Pinkish Chalice

Photosynthetic Gorgonian, I've been feeding it w/ live phyto / rotifer / copepod and other stuff atleast once per week along with some other stuff..

The SPS colony I got... gonna needa frag this guy down a bit... pic aint good but it's blue-purplish tip with some greenish - brown polyp... I think this guy browned up and just starting to color up now.

Wave~~~

Thank you for viewing! I will update some creature pictures in a week or 2

thank you! This tank is gonna suck up so much calcium lol...

Future plan for (probably during spring break or summer) this tank, add a 29G or 40G refuge to this tank!

If I were you I'd take out this rock and scrub off those colonial hydroids. They don't grow fast, but they do sting corals. Since they're isolated now, you can easily target them.

If you do, you may want to use coralrx instead http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2009/4/aafeature2#h17

I will be dosing Vodka starting tomorrow to see how it affect the tank.

On a good note... I had a branch of Garf Bonsai that I thought died on me.... Was gonna throw it out but though oh well lets put a dead branch in the new tank... 2 weeks later I'm seeing brown polyp coming out! another week later and these polyps are turning green!!!!!
