Solar what?

It's been so long since there has been any solar activity I was starting to forget what it was like. I was all discombobbled last night with setting the focus and dealing with headlamps..plus they fenced off one of my spots I used to chill in the car and wait for the action to start. Well, at least there are signs of the sun waking up...the first M class solar flare occurred the other day. It was the first recorded M class flare in almost 2 years!! It was cool to see that arc just suddenly turn on and brighten bright green like it does. To be under the stary night skies. Yeah, the future is looking bright for Aurora watching!

Pretty neat

I still am not looking forward to returning to Alaska quite yet, but once I get there I hope to see some.

That was with a 50mm. I usually don't get in that tight. More often than not it explodes all over the sky and wide is the way to go. If it's static though you can get some tight shots. A few more from the other night.

great shots - what settings are you using for these types of shots? how do you focus?
