Pink Yuma fragging...tougher to do than the scolys.

Ive had this pink yuma for over 18 months, it is the last of maybe 8 high end, high dollar yumas I bought a few years ago. Unfortunately, 7 melted, although one left a baby, that has gotten to adult size. Because I could only find threads with either failure or no updates, I am going to document this until they die or fully recover....

In all it's glory

Operating table with fresh blade on scalpel...notice empty glass of Crown Royal

Waiting for the cut..the next two pics are a lil blurry since I was probably shaking..

Quick cut from mouth out, done twice, notice all the water that was dumped from the cut

In the Lugols bath, used a pipette to blow any slime off

Very little slime, and no visible guts expelled

An hour after the fragging, and looking pretty good

Very interesting. Would like to see how long the Yuma will take to recover completely. Thinking of trying this out on my Yumas also.

Good luck! I've never had much success with those yumas. They slowly shrink and die on me.

Here they are at Day 2, they looked better when I first cut them, then they do now, although, it looks like they have begun to form a circle. I just cant be sure, since I don't want to disturb them at all. I am also wondering if I should maybe shade them a little. They are on the outside edge of my 10x39W Powermodule, Im sure the PAR levels are low since its not directly under the light. I know I should keep them in low flow, but how about light?

Some pellet food got into the container, and sure enough I saw one of them turn his mouth to reach for it...yuma on the right, look for the little 1/2 green mouth, see it turned down to reach for the food...I think that's a decent sign. I changed out the rubble fort CaRx media, that had been soaking for 6 months. lol

I ended up moving my frags to my sump, the display tank has too much flow, and even when I placed screen over the box, it seemed like too much light from my PM.

I even changed out the rubble, for CARx media, hoping the smaller size will prevent the Yumas from falling between the gaps and possibly damaging them.

Another update, I just dumped the container into the sump, so they are a little shriveled up, but still a lot better than a couple days ago. Seems like in my system, the slow flow in the sump and a very short light cycle is what they like best. Time will tell.

I've had tons of success fragging the standard Red/Orange Yuma. Total slice and dice with nearly no losses (only the behind the rock kind...) I've also fragged my Neon Yellow Yuma into 4ths. All four lived. I hope you have equal success!

It's looking pretty good now, I see they have become round again.

I'm hoping to have success like you puntific, I've had this Yuma for a while, a lot longer than any other Grade A color. It can live in both super clean skimmed SPS tank as well as a skimmerless, temp crazy nano. Hope to see them heal, then try it again.

They had two mouths right? Or 1 mouth that you sliced through the middle? Did you cut the yuma off the Live Rock before fragging it? Would like to frag mine, but they only have 1 mouth, and are attached to my LR, so I'd have to cut it off, then cut in half.

It was removed from it's rock. I started the cut from the mouth, and cut out, then did it again. That way I made sure I got part of the mouth on both pieces.

Twenty days and the yumas are fully inflated and looking really good, It may be time to glue them to a rock, and place them in the display.
