If I had money to blow (which obviously I do not), I'd buy a pair.

Yea, there's no way I could afford them, but they would be neat to have.

Apparently they only have that one and it's gone to a breeder who did not pay anything close to $2500.

Wont the normal maroon clown fish be electrocuted by this lightning maroon clown fish?

To acclimate the potential mate first he puts the normal maroon in a tank with leaking current

Actually I'm not sure I agree. First, keep in mind the actual sale price was not disclosed publicly. What we do know is that the price briefly showed up on Blue Zoo's Collector Choice page at $2,500, but Blue Zoo decided to get the fish to a reputable breeder instead of to the highest bidder (and bids came in that were well in EXCESS of $5000). Consider too that the fisher was well compensated for the fish, as that is a hallmark of the SEASMART Program. While I would be hard-pressed to pay four figures for a fish, the economics do make sense to me (and let's remember that Matt funded the purchase by selling lots of fish!) :-)

Define "well" compensated. Do you mean "well "for his/her social and/or economical standing in their own country or "well" as in a ratio fair to a price tag of $2500 in the States?

On a side note, I want to say congrats to Matt on the ownership of a truly unique fish.

Straight-up well is my perception. I'll see if I can get permission to share the payment amount, but you may have to wait until the CORAL Magazine article for that one. I can tell you the fisher was paid several times what he would have been paid for the highest value fish on the order. Also, keep in mind that the actual sale price has not been publicly disclosed. While there were bids of well over $5000, Matt paid less than the $2500 figure ************ reported seeing on the BZA site. When I interviewed Mark Martin at Blue Zoo and he outlined the time he had spent on the phone finding and negotiating with the right breeder, not to mention the article Blue Zoo published about the fish, it's pretty clear the fisher (and PAF) probably did the best of most folks along the chain of custody.

Does that help to clarify what I meant by "well"? I'm really not trying to be difficult, and transparency is the name of the game in my book. :-)

No, that fish wasn't shopped. And the price of something is whatever the person that wants it will pay. Heck 2500 is NOTHING - if Matt can breed them true he'll make that up with the first 10 fish he sells (if not less!).

I'm still saving for Peppermint Angels - I wish they were that cheap!
