My quarantine and stocking thread. <see username>

This is my thread about getting a pair of C. argi angels and keeping them for years and possibly breeding and raising them.

I tried this before but the female died mysteriously and the male went carpet surfing. I enjoyed them so much and received some great comments that I decided to do it again. And so much so that I changed my username to what it is now. My tank is 48"x13"x12" (it's a nano--sshhh!), 33 gallon long acrylic and loaded with some high end eqiupment, just see my specifications blog.

Well the plan is to get ready and get the pair started in quarantine before it's too hot to ship them; about mid-June. There's a lot of tedious things that have to be done in the mean time and just possibly the enormous job of building a stand and moving the tank. I have a bunch of stuff crammed inside the stand which prevents me from getting a bigger sump/fuge to elliminate and prevent the need of overflows into an auxiliary sump when the return pump goes off. The current stand does not allow for the housing of the proper size sump.

My blog does not mention my QT and it needs to set up for an automatic feeder and my rodi needs to be setup too. This picture is the only one I can find of the pair I had.

Like setting this up to store my purified well water. The rodi has to take out some minerals.

Just cleaned my collection cup. It had thick "mud" in the neck.

I will also follow this with interest.

Are you able to find established pairs, or do you just get a couple of them and hope for things to work out (or for them to become male and female--I don't know if cherubs have an established sex from the git-go or if they change, like so many other marine fishes)?

Hey, I also have a pair of cherubs in my little breeding room. I've only had them paired for a few months so no spawns yet. I'm feeding them 3x per day so hopefully spawning will begin soon! I keep the temp at 80-81 and the lights are on 12 hours to simulate spawning season.

Thank you and welcome aboard also.

I bought them at Inland Aquatics. Although the website says they're captive bred, they just sell wild caught now.

I would love to hear about your breeding room. :P

C. argis are some of my favorites, a very underappreciated fish.

And one of my favorites too. My son is prompting me to get some since purple and orange are his school colors.

Well I'll tell you about my QT tank, then post pics when I have more time.

It's a Nano Cube 6 and heavily modified at that. The first thing I did to it was replace the stock pump with a mini-jet 606 which improved the noise level. The most notable thing I did was to bulkhead an IceProbe through the side of the tank. That way I can quarantine livestock through the blistering heat of summer. I also added a powerhead in the display part for circulation.
