Yup, up on the right is a long and wide shelf about 9" below water level, directly under one of the MH's. First to go to the penthouse will be that naked-looking Bright Color Fiji Acro . If I ever figure out how to light acclimate it, or if I even have to.

Thanks, Rocket. Slow, but steady. Wish I had a fast forward button and see how it turns out in a few months.

Your very welcome, I'm glad someone else benifits from the hours I spend reading (my wife thinks I'm crazy) I just reallized I never posted in your build thread. I've read so many of your posts that it seems like I know you! The tank looks great, and I for one hope you keep this open, it's great to see progress over the months and the build thread seems the best way in my opinion.

Glad there are people who do share the knowlege, muttley.

Too soon for a new tank, Rayn. Maybe in the future, swammie may be right .

I guess I can keep this thread going. More of a blog now, though. Please feel free to continue to comment and critique, everyone.

It is almost 4 1/2 months since I started this tank. I had diatoms until last week. They all just vanished, whoosh, over the week. I noticed some pink coraline over the weekend, and over the last 3 days, the coraline is exploding. Maybe it's the new live rock, but I'm getting red wart like growths as well as encrusting pink and red ones all over the rocks, old and new, and some on the return nozzles and koralias. A few splotches of emerald green are showing up as well. The inevitable GHA is also making an appearance, but those are being actively mowed down by the tangs and the coral beauty. The caulerpa in the refugium is getting pretty thick, too. I'll chop it down this weekend. All the parameters are good, even the 'trate level is 0.

I don't know if it's just time causing this development, or the salt. I switched from Seachem NeoMarine back to the old faithful Reef Crystals last week.

The new branching acro was starting to bleach, so I went ahead and glued it up at the penthouse, close to the MH and in a direct path of one of the koralias. Seems to like it, as the polyps are starting to show. Bright green polyps, but, boy, tiny ones.

Roughly 3 months, but only with 6weeks of T5HO lighting.

Breakdown below:

My original 65 gallon converted from freshwater to saltwater, keeping freshwater lights.

7/1/2010 - Joined a couple forums and became serious about the hobby.

8/1/2010 - Upgraded to 75 gallon and Drilled tank.

8/20/2010 - Purchased T5 lighting

9/20/2010 - DIY Sump

10/1/2010 - Current Picture (Algae and All)

I couldn't have done it without everyone's help and input. I still have a long way to go.

I encourage you to take a lot of pictures and keep a journal.

Your tank seems to be maturing faster than mine. I am just starting on the coraline growth, and your's seems to be covering everything.

EDIT: Wife reminded me I didn't really start the tank until 4 weeks ago when I added the livestock. It was sitting just cycling water waiting for replacement tank for the longest time. I love a supportive woman!

My 65 was up for a year under freshwater lights. I cleaned the sand and transplanted the rocks to the 75. After buying T5 lighting, I also bought some very small heavily coralline covered rock from another. From those few small pieces of rock, it has spread like crazy.

Palting, you are running MH right? I started and had my 120 slightly ahead of yours and coralline is growing like crazy covering the rock. Quicker then with my t5 lights. Give yours a little more time and I bet it starts for you too. Is there any in there currently?

Yes, I'm running MH, and the coraline is just now starting to bloom. Mostly the pink encrusting type, but there are also a lot of what I would call "confluent red warts". LOL!

My oldest Fiji rock, one of those I used to seed my dry rock when it was still in the 110 gal and had minimal coraline at that time, is now showing unusual coraline. In addition to the usual red and pink, it's also developing both lime and emerald green crusts that seem a little irridiscent. I hope it's not a disease or plague of some kind lol!.

Pic! I've read of green coralline, but also that it isn't common. One of my bigger ecosystem has been green for a couple weeks now, but I ddont wanna guess that is it.

Home for lunch. Here's the pic. The flash and camera don't do it justice, but you can see the green and blue green coraline on several surfaces. To the right of the acro is one of the conglomerate of my red warts . The pink under the acro is putty/glue, but all the other pink is coraline.

Looks like I got an acro harvested from a wild colony, and it opens only at night. Wild acros are more difficult in captivity compared to aquacultured ones, so this is more of a challenge. Hope this one not only lives, but thrives. For posterity, here's a pic taken with flash with the tank in total darkness. So far, that's the only time the polyps are out.

Hey Palting, How long since you took the lava rock out of the tank? I wonder if it has anything to do with the recent activity??

Going on almost 2 weeks now, muttley. Also 2 X 20% WC ago.

Yup, I suspect there indeed was something in the lava rock that was dragging the process down. Since I took them out, I see more coraline, the growth of a purple acro is accelerated, I have a large mat of GSP that now has all polyps open when only part of it used to...

Remember this one? Silk coral?

It's got babies!! Accidently fragged it when I broke off a piece of the base placing it in the new tank.
