use of Lugols
My local saltwater place told me to NEVER use Lugols as a tank additive as it will poisn the tank. He said you should use an iodide additive and NOT Lugol's as that is an iodine additive and unstable. Is this accurate?
He also said it is nearly impossible to test for iodide/iodine .....so how do you know if you are adding the proper amount? I have a 28g nano. thanks! |

partially correct
lugos is very strong, so one drop will be too much, specially in a 28G I never bothered testing for Iodine, I dont want to repeat others words, so I hope they will let you know why you cant test Iodine |

Many people use Lugols, but if one is to add iodine (I generally think it NOT useful), then I'd use iodide. Lugols does have unnatural and reactive forms of iodine in it (as I2), while iodide (I-) is naturally present in seawater.
FWIW, I've not dosed any iodine for years. This has more: Iodine in Marine Aquaria: Part I http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/mar2003/chem.htm
