SRO XP 3000 cone skimmer, ?

I just recently purchased this skimmer n was wondering if this is overkill for a 125g reef tank. The reason I went with a skimmer this size is because I have 4 large tangs, Copperband, several wrasses, school of chromis/anthias, clowns, bangaii, the list goes on, but the latter fish being the biggest producing the most waste. I'm in the process of plumbing my sump downstairs so I'm going to take down my 40g long which was halfway filled with water n now going to add a 40 breeder filled n a 75g fuge. I'm not completely happy with the current foam production. Will this extra water help out my protein skimmer or should I consider selling this one n downsizing to a 2000? Thanks

IMO too much skimmer for that size tank.

I have a 170 gallon with the XP3000 external and my system is on the light side for this skimmer. I have a decent fish bioload similar to yours.

I honestly think you would have been more than fine with the XP2000. The additional water from the sump doesnt add anything to the bioload of the system.

I'm no expert so I dont wont to say downsize to the XP2000 and I will leave that up to Mike or Jeremy as they know these skimmers best.
