Hi Seahorse,
I will for sure post pix. I see you keep the orange spotted filefish- neat! Is it eating anything other than coral polyps? If you have a thread could you point me to it? Best, Angela

Update: ARRIVED
Well, my baby has arrived- he's just about full grown at 2 3/4" in length and he came in swimming and looking entirely fine about his overnight trip. He is now in his own little 20g reef quarantine (all of the fishes that were there before were moved yesterday to a new, larger system.) I will attempt to feed him later today and see if he goes for a piece of krill.
Camera status: can't find USB cord Just ordered another on ebay, so hoping it'll be here soon. Until then, no pix, but suffice it to say he's absolutely adorable. ![]()

Update: Shy, not eating
Well, he's not terribly active on day 2. I have seen him pick at rocks, but very reluctantly and only intermittently. I put in some mysis last night.. nothing. I put in a piece of krill this morning.. nothing. I'm going to put in a sheet of nori in a little bit, maybe he wants some algae. I'm open to suggestions...
Thx, Angela

Update: He's eating (yay!)
Well, yesterday I threw in some live black worms and he seemed interested but I couldn't tell if he ate any. This morning I put in the live black worms along with some thawed mysis and saw him attack the mysis. This evening I put in just mysis and he's still buzzing about the tank slowly, picking at the rocks. So, yay, he's gonna make it!
Now I just have to name him. I always call my fish "him" so maybe I'll make it a girl, unless there is a good way to sex "her".?? -A

I got a toby puffer off of liveaquaria about a month ago. Though it was a blue spotted toby. I love him and he seems to act the same way yours is. He swims around, sometimes reluctantly but mine always gets really excited when he gets hungry and sees me. He also picks and some rocks and algae and other stuff around the tank. All I know about mine, is that he loves shrimp, squid and octopus. I havn't tried feeding him anything else.
Keep us up to date about how he is doing, he's a really cool puffer. |

Our pair has been eating very well for several months now. They both fattened-up nicely. They apparently don't know they aren't supposed to eat prepared foods.

Not sure if this was directed to the puffer or filefish, but the puffer is eating well. He's slow, and he doesn't start to chase food until it passes by him, then he stalks and attacks. It takes him a while to finish 1 mysis shrimp, he has to take bites with his tiny mouth. Yesterday a small piece of krill and one of nori were absent from the clip after being in the tank for 2 days. I'm assuming the cardinalfish that are now in there didn't eat that stuff. I put a piece of shrimp tail and of nori on the clip yesterday and they are still there... weird that he takes a while to find them, or eat them.
I will update soon. Can I take a picture with flash photography, or will he be greatly disturbed by it? Also, does a flash work with the glass- I'm thinking reflection? Angela

We rarely use flash photography for aquarium shots. However, a tripod is invaluable.

What other fish are in the tank with the lepard toby? I'm considering getting one myself, but I have bannerfish and anthias.
