Sorry to hear you lost your male, Daniel.

You have done a great job with that rescue. I have been following that thread.

Update

My rescued female has full body weight. And I think she's gravid judging by her belly shape.

I lost my last female due to what I suspect was an issue associated with being gravid.

The new female isn't eating much for about 2 days and seems low energy. Maybe they will spawn. Or maybe she will die too. I sure hope it's the former. I'll try to get a pic up later. Anyone have your female get gravid? What happened?

Cheers, small

Thanks, Renton. That was a humbling and kind of awesome experience to bring that fish back from the brink. She was literally thin as a leaf. And it was during a 3 day power outage/snow storm that I acquired her. So, I had the generator going and was staying home from work. All I did all day was feed that fish. At least 10 times the first day. Trying so many different things. I am very grateful for the experience. I think it's fair to say, for me, it was very spiritual.

Cheers.

My condolences. Are you sure it she was gravid and not bloated from something internal?

Either way, you gave her a longer life than she would have had if you hadn't taken her in. Kudos for the intent and effort.

Thanks, guys. I can't be sure. The first female was quite apparently gravid I think and was really putting on a show of spawning behavior before she croaked. She got much more bloated at the end though.

This female looked kind of normally round in the middle. Didn't eat one day, died two days later. I can't autopsy because by the time I found the body today it was just a shell of skin. They have very tough skin.

Thanks again. I don't tend to be emotional about my tank any more. I'm sure I would if the whole thing went to heck. But things die and that's the way it is.

Our female is still going strong (over 3 years now), but we lost our male a little while ago for reasons unknown.

The male has died.

I had an unfortunate tank mishap entirely of my own making which resulted in the loss of 6 of my fish including my male OSFF. That fish meant quite a bit to me and I'm still kind of realizing the loss of that small, blue and orange part of my life.

Rest in peace, Male OSFF. And, I'm sorry.

I'm going to make myself feel a bit better by adding a small Pakistan Butterfly. I've always loved them.

Well put, Seahorsedreams.

I would never pass up an opportunity to keep another specimen of this more awesome of reef fishes. It's weird not to have one in my tank. I think after almost two years of OSFF keeping, I kind of associated part of my sense of self with that species of fish. I feel like something is missing in my life. At the same time, I kind of feel like I had my time with them to a degree. I don't know that I'll seek one out. But if one finds me.

My OSFF is my favorite fish. I consider it my greatest accomplishment to date in this hobby. I wouldn't be without one for very long either. I will be so bummed when she's gone.

On a cheerier note, I have now had my OSFF for one year. He's fat and happy. Just need to find him a girlfriend

Just bought a female from DD

I happened to check my email at the right time and snag this female today. She should be here Thursday.

Well, if someone was going to get it (besides me ) I can't think of a better home for it than in your aquarium.

I put her straight into the DT. She's eating prawn roe and SA pellets soaked and smooshed. Her body weight on arrival was very good. She's kind of little. Here's a couple pics.

She doesn't take any guff. The yellow coris has been bugging her a little but she takes it in stride like most files. Now to find another male. I want to get a pair to spawn. That is my goal.

okay let me start over NEED YOUR HELP GUYS, i have had one for a bit over 3 weeks and barely got it to eat. here are the best non altered photos the first one at night time while it was sleeping. this is the one im hoping and thinking is a male ??????, it is still in the 2.5 inch range but the white spots are not that noticable and his fins do seem to be alot more orange on them than just clear.

here during normal lights and just looking at him you cant tell of any white spots

NEXT we have one that i picked up today, it is eating very well actually and has been at the local store for over a week, and eating since then, its mac certified and came in eating so dont know why its so skinny still. anyways what stand out is the top dorsal part actually splits into 2 !!! is that something anyone has seen before ???? and this is the one i think and hope is female. what do you thing ????
