ids please
Hi there - I have a couple unidentified things in my tanks.
First off, this commensal (hopefully?) snail that lives on my conch. It has black antennae and a tiny black trunk. I've posted pics of this before - hopefully these new ones are a bit better. It's difficult to get a pic of a conch this way - he kept kicking me ![]() ![]() ![]() Next I have two red macro-algae: I think this first is caulerpa? The Algae is in the center of the pic. ![]() The second, I have no clue....

looks like a Limpet is keeping your Conch's shell clear of algae!
No Caulerpa. Nice red algae, though.

I dont have an ID, but I know the guys at ABC pets (in fairport) have some of the same red algae in the 3rd pic. really fluorescent! I once had some on a small frag of zoas, it only lasted about 24 hours in my tank, from what I understand its really delicate.

Tagging along. I have the same red algae in my tank. It grows moderately. It looks nice and adds color to the tank so I just keep it under control.

A limpet - well, the pictures look right. It seems they sometimes eat SPS. Not a problem in my tanks - no sps - but, I'm curious about that because this snail isn't mobile. It just rides around on the conch so it wouldn't have the choice to go eat corals if that's what it desired. I suppose there are a gazillion kinds - I'll still keep an eye on it
![]() I'm happy that I haven't yet gotten any bad id's for the red algae - I like them both, especially the fluorescent one. It's growing in two different spots at a fairly quick rate. I had been toying with the idea of buying some red algae for the tank, then this appeared - love this hobby. I'll post an update if anything happens.
