250 DD Build Thread - It's Official

Built my stand this week. Will be skinning it with 1x4 pine and 1x3 picture frame popouts. Still trying to decide if I will be doing entirely LED lighting but will be at least using 72 of the xpg/xre bulbs. I also decided to not do the overhang so disregard that part of the pictures.

2x8 for the top part of the frame
2x6 for the bottom and sides
2x8 center brace in back
2x6 center brace in front

Stand is 37 inches tall after the OSB for the top and bottom was installed. If Marineland would build a stand that would have room for the skimmers needed to run such a tank I would have just bought one.

Probably overbuilt but why not.

Tank will be 60x36x27. I plan on using Mag 18 as my return pump and trying to decide between a standard 75 gallon sump or buying an acrylic custom sump.

Does the DD refer to the tank's size?

I wish I were talented enough to build my own stand and such. Seeing people doing their own plumbing, ect.
I struggle putting a HOB Filter together

250 would be nice

DD stands for "Deep Dimension". The Marineland DD tanks are 36" front to back.

Looks good, If cross bracing is possible I would add some. When I put in my wave box I had to go back in and add them, my entire stand wanted to move side to side. Not a good feeling.

Finished building all the panels that will cover the gaps between the end supports. Still trying to sort out how I am going to mount them, but have been experimenting with magnetic catches. Really do not want to do hinges. My other option is going to be to put a 1/2" frame on the inside that rests on the edges of the knockouts.

Finally finished construction of the stand. Still have to stain it but I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Panels are removable. Going to work on the canopy next but still trying to decide on how many leds I am going to put on this thing.

I am going to stain it jacobean. Its a dark brown. I ended up skinning it with pine for the top and bottom trim, oak plywood for the main sections and the doors are made of birch. Im hoping for a parquet look.

Did you end up putting any other cross bracing on the top frame?? I'm using this basic design and am trying to get some ideas.

Put some stain on the stand tonight. Not sure if I am going to put another coat on it or not. Have to wait and see how it dries.

Dano ----- As far as cross bracing, the only thing I added was a board running from front to back in the center of the stand. I figured cross bracing is something I can add at any time on the ends. With the size of wood I used, I do not feel that my stand is going to fail. Haven't weighed it yet, but I would guess that the stand weighs over 200 lbs right now.
