Flow with Vortech MP40s

Well I ordered 2x Vortech MP40w ES last night. I'm currently running 4x Koralia 2 (260-680 gph each) on a Deluxe Koralia Wavemaker, 4x Koralia Evo 1400s (1400 gph each) on a Red Sea Pro Wavemaker, and an OceanRunner 1800 (1800 gph) on a closed loop. Should the 2 Vortechs MP40s (1000-3200 gph each) be adequate to replace the 8 Koralias in a 125g SPS dominant reef? Dimensions are 46 long x 22 wide x 28.5 tall.

Thanks!

I replaced 8 k4s with 4mp40. I have a lot more flow then I did with the koralias.

I think you will be fine to remove them all especially on a 4 foot 125g.

I'd say so. The flow from an MP40 is stronger than the flow from Koralias of equal gph. If I did the math right, your flow is a bit higher with the koralias, but the MP40s are stronger IME. So, I think it will be similar. The flow from the MP40 will be wider and more ubiquitous too, which will help.

Yup you need 1 mp40 per 2 foot of tank.

yea i have 2 of the mp40s in a 120 sps dominated tank. those corals love the pulse mode. a good trick is if you plan on placing them facing each other, put one higher and one lower. a swirl effect will rotate the water and clean up everything. my tank has pretty much zero detritus on the bottom.

Excellent, thanks for all the input! The 8 Koralias packed in there became quite an eye sore, I'm excited to get these bad boys up and running. I've never seen them in person but the Vortech videos I've seen on Youtube are quite impressive.

They are nice. I had 4 koralia 4's and another small pump in my 120g and that was an eyesore too. I added an mp40wes and removed four of the pumps. The mp40 is pushing sand in an area behind a rock structure! I'm planning to get another mp40wes soon.

8 koralias in a tank is also an electrocution hazard.

The day I got a good strong zap was the day I started removing unneeded wires from my tank. Now there is only 1. A skimmer pump. The rest of the equipment is external. Vortechs were one of my best purchases yet.

To those that made the switch to MP40s could you kindly post pictures. I'm in the same boat right now. Stupid me, aquascaped my live rock in a old school stadium fashion and even with a Mag 18 and two K4s on wavemakers, I still see detritus build up on the back wall. I'm looking to switch to a single MP40, will one do the trick or will I need to invest in two?

Please post pictures, I'm a very visual person. But I guess we all are since we are in the hobby of admiring beauty.

You should go with 2.
