Anyone Tried A Nitrate Reducer?
I've seen some products out there, specifically Instant Ocean "Natural Nitrate Reducer", and wonder if it works.
Anyone tried it? My Nitrates are range between a 5 and a 10. 5 a day or two after I do my water change, but then it just goes right back up to around 10. Does this stuff work? |

i have used it, I would not use the recommended amount. I used a little less than half and i got a bacteria bloom. I was going to use this first and then switch to pellets. It seemed to work for me, my nitrates were 30-40 and i tested saturday and they were around 10-12. I only used one bottle since that was enough for a week worth due to my added volume.

I've had good luck with the same product (I.O. Nitrate Reducer). I agree with Jason though, I always use less than what is called for with any chemical. I am actually using it right now on my 29, as I feed 3-4 times a day for my spawning clowns. I keep up on the water changes, but feeding that often in a reef adds up. But I have definately found that this product works, as well as their Reef Accelerator. The Reef Accelerator works just as good as Purple ** and it's cheaper. Oh, not certain what type of filter you have on your tank, but their is granual particles in it that do not disolve. I add it directly to my H.O.B. filter all the way in the back, so the particles don't reach the water and end up in the filter where they are suppose to be anyway. I was kind of leary at first, but I am the type that would rather do it all natural rather than use a chemical. I'd definatley buy it again though. Good luck, J

A while back, Petco had this stuff on clearance for $2.00 per bottle. I bought the only one they had to try it out. It worked well, but now that I'm out, I'm too cheap to buy it at the regular price

CLEARANCE??? Man hopefully it's not one of those products that comes out and works really well, but then they get rid of it. I think I paid $7.** for the bottle I have and it was worth every penny. I'd definately recommend spending the money for it. I'm an honest person and when I find something that works as advertised, I like to let others know. Also when it's a product that does the job, I have no problem putting the money out for it. I have had very good luck with S**chem Purigen as well and it does a number of things. Good Luck, J
