Zoa issues

Hi zoa guys, I have had some beautiful green zoas in my tank of ove a year doing great, recently I added a few zoa frags, one of them is just shriveling up and dying, any suggestions?

How did you acclimate? Water parameters? Do anything different lately?

I floated them to adjust to temp and then put them in, but I did the same with lots of other frags added at the same time, 2 other zoas and everything else is good. No changes in the tank lately. Do some zoas have more lighting needs than others, they are all on the bottom of my tank?

How recently? They sometimes take a few days to a week to adjust.

Thanks Jeff, the other frags are doing great but my beautiful blue ones have just melted away.

I wonder if it was just because of the specific cultivar of zoa... I'm an avid gardener and often I will grow many different cultivars of the same plant and sometimes, one or two just don't do well because they aren't bred with as robust genes as the others. It wasn't something I did or didn't do, they just weren't strong from the start. I'm not saying this is the case for your blue zoa but it is possible that the thing just wasn't able to handle the change in conditions-- certainly don't take it personally. If your other zoas and corals are doing well, then it was just one of those things that happens in reefing.

Thanks Ryan, they started to melt as soon as I named them my favourites. I guess you must be right because everything else is doing great.

There very well could be a legitimate reason for your blue zoas melting but it becomes very difficult to figure out what the reason is when you have other zoas that are unaffected or even thriving. If there is a specific reason, my bet is that it was unique to these polyps and had nothing to do with you or your system.

It's difficult when these things happen but the good thing is, you are growing your other ones well!
