NEUCO Deep Blue Star 20k MH Lamp

Coming Very Soon

We should have our long anticipated shipment of the NEW Deep Blue Star 20k NEUCO lamps next week. I have been personally running a test version of this lamp for approximately 6 months now and it is still holding its gorgeous blue spectrum. It has been running alongside the popular 20k Radium and I truly like this lamp better because it is brighter and really give the corals a punch of color. This lamp has easily become my favorite MH lamp and can't wait to throw three of them above my reef. For more information regarding this lamp please click here.

Hi Jeremy,

What are people like myself going to do that are running the traditional magnetic HQI M80 ballast? I can't see changing out my entire lighting just to switch bulbs. Any idea how they are going to run on magnetic ballasts?

TIA

I am sure they will run fine on a m80 ballast but am not sure how they will hold their spectrum and life over time. I have been overdriving a 20k DBS with an electronic ballast along side a Radium 20k for a little over 5 months with no signs of degradation or color shift. I myself am not a fan of magnetic ballasts and haven't used one on any of my systems for 8-9 years or so I am not up to what other options are out there.

Do you have PAR values on these? How will they look in 250W DE on a galaxy e-ballast compared to a radium or to a phoenix 14k?

Well, I finally got around to testing the 250Wse version of this bulb with a par meter. I'm running coralvue dimmable ballasts with Lumenarc mini reflectors. I was not happy with the par values. I have the bulbs mounted about 11 inches from the water and I tested just below the surface of the water and was only getting a par value of 410. My reeflux 10k bulb was reading 730. I expected it to be lower than the Reeflux 10k, but not that much lower. Could it be a bad bulb? I would like to try and get the 14K version and hope that it reads higher.

Is it true that the 14k version is the same bulb as the Aquaconnect? I read that somewhere, but I'm not convinced until I test it. I know the Aquaconnect bulb is a great bulb with very high par values for a 14k bulb.

What would be the point of a 14k version vs the phoenix? Also, what's the par on a radium 250?

Hello. I am due to change out my 250 watt SE bulbs. I have used radiums and love the color. I am waiting to see comparison between these and radiums before I order. Any idea of when we will have this info?

I was in the same exact boat and choose not to be a guinea pig. Went with Phoenix 250w SE on the advice of several others on this forum and LOVE the color, par, cost and sps's are doing very well.

You will not be disappointed imho and I was very nervous to switch from Radiums and I am glad I found a very good alternative.

HTH

So has anyone gotten the DE version yet? Or has it not been shipped to anyone yet?
