I am sure your multibar will do well since you have removed the aggressor...make sure he gets a good dose of vitamin enriched frozen food.
Well, aggression wasn't the issue.... seems like a bad case of fin rot and ick... lost the Multibar...... had it for 9 months now and was eating great! .... sucks

Care for the venustus and multibar is pretty much identical, I believe that its most important to get a juvenile so they can be weaned onto pellets. Now I'm back to the heartache of finding and feeding them..... gonna be a while...

What's the progress of the new tank?

Hi Bello,
Can relate with ya...losing a fish that has been with you for a while is just depressing...but nature does take its course...i guess.

Be patient my friend you will find the perfect fish

About the new tank....its research and decision time ...
Dimensions are set and iv selected the glass...
Now I am planning the cabinet design..where, what should go...
Also making equipment choices.

Stay tuned...

Hi Dani...
It's great to hear from ya bro.
I haven't tested the PAR on this lighting.
But Caroliniana is a deep water coral and prefers not so bright direct light. I have kept mine higher up on my tank but towards the back side of the tank. Its not under direct light. It sure does like the flow from my Vortech.
I had initially light acclimatized it, started low on the tank and gradually raised it to the current position.
It's a beautiful coral, I'm looking out for colour variants.

Though my LED system doesn't belong to one of the brands tested, mine are using the CREE LEDs. But if you ask me the key factor in any LED system is the driver, which is the heart of the system. Good quality drivers are a must to get the best out of LEDs.
Overall these LEDs I am using does sustain a small reef system but in a bigger system I don't think it will work. Iv noticed the growth rates are not as rapid as under MH or even other brand LEDs, but it is a blessing in disguise as we can enjoy our smaller tanks longer coz SPS doesnt grow and fill out the space within an year and yea no trimming issues

I think you should be fine with 15mm for 50 cms tall rimless, and that'll definitely help with the sand not blowing around as much. DIY tank?? You're a brave man , I'm useless at it.

Have you considered going with 60cm width? I'm biased towards wider tanks, even the dropoff is 60cm. It'll give you better minimalist aquascaping options. Dunno if your space permits though.

Starting a new build thread for the new tank?
Are those eBay led spotlights?

Hi Brett,
Not showing off LOL.
Just presenting the work of my busy mind and welcoming suggestions from all.
Planning for a reef tank is almost like planning for a building

Hi all...
This is just amazing....check it out.
http://www.catlinseaviewsurvey.com/seaview.htm

Very similar to what I had in mind and wanted to recreate as my aquascape for my new tank ...I hope I can do this. Already am hunting for the live rock pieces to set this up.

I am planning to make an all wood stand for the new tank....
Levelling the tank is my worry right now....anyone have any pointers/experience on the use of levelling screws or fittings on the base of the stand? What kind or gauge to get?

any advice would be greatly appreciated

My flooring has wooden panelling over tiles....

Hi 06bug...
Thanks for viewing. Glad to know I am not the only one with the "levelling legs" query
Hope somebody will give us some insight on the best way of levelling an all wood stand.

I would skip the legs and just use shims if possible. Remember to shim the stand, not the tank.

Thanks Brett. Definately will look into that. But won't shims get damaged if they get wet and the stand lose it's levelling?
I was thinking waterproofing the base of the stand and keep it slightly off floor. Not sure if it's possible.
