I would say yes on the 65 being better. Is there any way to make a new sump that has a larger skimmer area? |

Ok, mine is more like 23 1/4. and you need about another 1/2 inch to remove the cup.

Yeah, remeasured and there is a 1/8" false bottom between tank bottom and cabinet, if I remove it I have almost 25". E-Bay here I come.

should be good to go, you could also plumb a drain line to the collection cup so you wouldn't have to remove it as often. From what I read, some come with the drain line, some don't. Mine didn't but think I am going to add one.

I didn't research enough first, so I didn't know to drill my 125 before I set it up. You may have seen my threads on my DIY overflow and DIY rubbermaid sump? Both are working awesome BTW. So when I needed a larger, highr flow skimmer, I went searching for a deal. Again, thanks to allsps for the score! |

Saved big bucks, and b/c I was able to 'bend' the rubbermaid sump into my stand door, again, already set up, I now have a bigger sump, at a mere fraction of the cost! My fish are so happy right now! So when I needed a larger, highr flow skimmer, I went searching for a deal. Again, thanks to allsps for the score! I'm looking at my CRYSTAL CLEAR tank right now! |

does anyone here own the bubble magus nac 3.5?
it looks functionally similar to the sc-65 (but bm costs 3x more), but wondering how the connection from the pump to the skimmer body is done. I don't think it can screw in, so wondering if it is just like sc-65 where the body just sits on the pump.

Just got the 150 with the atman 2500. How is the venturi suppose to be secured to the pump? It came with a barbed fitting. Its the 150 with the pump underneath. Thanks

I know it should only be worth that much, more likely less, but every online store I found selling it wants $50-$60 plus shipping. likewise, impeller alone for BM or SWC goes for $25-$30+ shipping, imho, not worth experimenting with something that costs 30% of the original equipment. not unless you already own a BM or SWC. I don't have the sc-150, but fwiw, I have used both BM and SWC and compared and swapped the impellers between the two, and can say without a doubt after several experiments, that the SWC impeller produces better and more bubbles. If you want to get the SWC impeller, you may need to get the whole assembly (including the magnet). Unless the sc-150 impeller is similar where you can just pop off and replace the front part and use the same magnet. In that case, the SWC impeller without the magnet costs $5, but costs $14 to ship.

Just jumped on the bandwagon and place an order for one too! Now only if we have a similar knockoff for the Vortec MP40...No reason for $400+ one powerhead.

maybe if you can post a picture of what you have, and a close up of the venturi and the pump volute/input connection.
I don't own the sc-150, perhaps just wait for someone who owns it respond. |

you don't need to remove the volute from the pump. be careful when you put it back.
I would, remove the rubber tip which goes on to the end of the ceramic shaft from the volute, and put it on the shaft, then put the volute back on. The common problem with removing the volute is there may be a piece of washer between the impeller and the rubber tip that may fall off unnoticed, then the user complains pump runs noisy. now I don't know if the sc-150 comes with a washer or not, but I know the BM comes with it. the blue end of the venturi should just insert onto the volute opening. from the previous picture, it looks like the volute inserts into the venturi. it may be a tight fit, but that looks like how its put together. |
