moding gate valve

I would like to stop or reduce the amount of splashing that is going on in my sump because of the exhaust on the gate valve of my sro 1000int. my skimmer sits in about 5.25 - 5.35 inches of water do you have any suggestions as to how to silence it

You can aim the output towards a wall in the sump and have it cascade down or you can extend the plumbing to the water surface by creating a vented output pipe consisting of a rubber coupling a tee and two short lengths of PVC.

Thanks for the quick response. I will be going with the cascade method, it seems like i have to add less foreign objects into my system.

I have seen you tell people that 5.5 to 5.75 inches is ideal for this skimmer, is there anything wrong with the depth i have mine set at?

The pump may pull air from the surface and cavitation the pump is the water level gets too low. You will also get slightly better air pull numbers if you raise it up half an inch.

I wanted my output quiet, as well as exiting in front of my return pump. Just make sure you have enough vent holes so that whether on or off, the skimmer's internal bubbles or water level is unaffected. It is 1 1/2" pvc and coupler.

You are very welcome!! Your customer service here persuaded me to purchase the SRO 1000 and 2000 skimmers. I could not be happier with the SRO 1000. Waiting to convert a 150g to use the SRO 2000 on.
