This is great, I never knew these lasers were so powerful.
I hope these are not the lasers some morons use to bother professional soccer players when taking free kicks or penalty kicks. |

Soccer I hope not. I think that would be close enough to damage the players eyes.
Airplanes probably, they are pretty far up there. My advice is for those 2 ideas is "Don't try this at home"

I dont know if any of you noticed on www.lazerer.com the LZSK models are now waterproof. I sent them an email inquiring about the ability for this model, and the next day the site was changed. lol!
I might pick up one of the 1.2W focusable waterproof lasers now

I found this deal for the 1.4 but it's just the laser package nothing else... batteries and glasses are seperate. You also have to be a member of LPF site.

Mine came in the mail today (bought from a guy on LaserPointerForum). I will be trying it tonight. Anyone think it will work on Asterina stars?

Since they grow by splitting I was not sure if there would be a 'proper' method.

aptasia
That is awesome!! I have tried everything. It seems like anything chemical I use almost works like fertilizer. Also, every peppermint shrimp I purchase seems to be "the One" that doesn't eat them.

As the OP of this thread, I'm glad to see it is being carried on and the lasers are being used on some different 'issues' than my aiptasia situation. I still have some good size aiptasia in my DT, but I'm leaving them alone for now in hopes that the Mueller's Butterfly I got recently will develop an appetite for them. He is eating live black worms and frozen mysis shrimp, but he has been picking at the LR quite a bit as well. So far he hasn't given any of the corals or clams a second look (and I hope we keep it that way!).

If you get one try and look att he focusing and on/off mechanisms.
Most of these hand held ones have a limited duty cycle. Maybe a minute on and a minute off. I think a push button switch in the rear is a pain. I have seen a few with a side button, if I have to get another one this is one thing I will look for. More important is probably the focus mechanism. In hindsight I would look for one with a focusing ring larger than the body of the laser so I can use a thumb to focus it. As it is I pretty much need to use two hands. IMHO focus is the hardest part of getting this to work, but maybe I only need a little more practice. Depending on what other uses you have for these you may need to consider other issues. For instance if you are carrying it as a signaling device (if you get lost in the woods) maybe a side switch isn't such a good idea. Money might not be the only thing burning a hole in your pocket. Just some thoughts to ponder for those considering this.

I just one blue 1.5watts for $249. it works out very good but it takes couples second to minus to melt aptasia. One thing is about laser light when you used it too long it get hot and the battery runs out so fast. you must buy extra recharge battery to back up. good stuff and fun but cost little expensive.

I think the laser can reach a lot of aiptasia that the Aip-taser has a hard time getting at do to it's long size. It isn't cheap, but it works, it's easier and it's almost fun.

Unfortuniatly I did not get recharable batteries with mine. When the battery life is running low, will it become less powerfull or will it come to a point, when it won't turn on at all?

I bought mine used with old rechagable batteries. They don't last too long, maybe 10-15 minutes of run time. I've never pushed them to see if it shuts down. I did notice that as they run down the laser does get weaker. And my laser being older also has no 'safety' to avoid over heating the diode. So I run it until the unit gets kind of warm... OK, pretty warm (about 3 minutes of run time over a 4-5 minut span), and then while it cools off I recharge the batteries.
