id this algae please

This "caught a ride" into my tank via a recently added clam. It's about the size of 2 quarters - and feels very course (not soft at all) to it.

After realizing that my Tangs were really loving to much on this stuff, I pulled the majority off the side of my clams shell (which was rather difficult, as it was attached pretty securely to it), rubberbanded it to a small stone & through it into my refuge. After about a week, it's now attached itself to the stone (and hence, I've removed the rubber band) but it doesn't appear to have grown very much, compared to the Caulerpa that's also in my tank.

Any clue what it is? Worth keeping or is it something I should chunk out? Any help is appreciated.

cheers

cowboy
