Very dissapointed with Mp40...

So I finally splurged and purchased an Mp40 for my 5' 100g tank and I just have to say that a $500 powerhead should be able to move water more than 2.5' from it...

At 100% power half the tank is insane other half looks like the water is at a stand still. Once in a while a breeze will hit other side but not even close to enough. I was certainly hoping for more than this.

A little research will show that an MP40 wont move the water 5 feet. Vortechs are a very wide flow, not a stream like others.

My MP10s on 100% only moved the water about 30". You really need 2 MP40s for your tank.

I am sorry to be so blunt but some research would have done wonders. Instead you come on bashing EcoTech.

Should go for MP60 instead of MP40!

You should have done your due diligence before just buying. No one would have recommended just one MP40 for a 5' tank. You need two 40s, one on the left side and one on the right.

My Mp40 works well for a 4ft tank but I think I would need a MP60 for a 5ft+

I have two MP40's on either end of my 4' 120 gal running anti-sync. Works great, but definitely need two.

Yep well I just purchased a second so I appologize for my OP and I'm sure that once I get home and put the second on the other end of the tank I'll be extremely happy.

However at the time of my post last night I definately was disappointed.

Now that I do have two once I get the second running do you suggest I run on anti-sync or sync mode? And does it matter for the wave in NTM?

if on same side, sync.

if different sides, anti sync/

you have to play around with placement, but in a 66" tank, with 2 MP40s, I get a 1" wave [measured from bottom to top which would be a 0.5" wave from middle.)

You will like the anti-sync mode on opposite ends. If you have an Apex controller, check out the WMX module to control the pumps.

These pumps work the best when synced with another pump. I have 3 currently 2 MP60 and 1 MP40. Loving it. Yeah I dropped over 1k but still. Its awesome.

2 MP60 and 1 MP40 cost roughly $2k.

I got a 150G, 6 ft tank. I would need at least 2 MP40 or 1 MP40 and 1 MP60. yikes!

nope 2 mp40wes will be fine, then if you need to, add a 3rd to put on the back glass to get a gyre going, but I have these two on my 180G (6ft) and it's more than adequate for an SPS dominant tank

It takes a little while to get used to the pumps not blasting out a stream like most others day. The vortech actually create a more natural movement, which is less detectable, but more effective. I agree that you could use another on your tank. Are they pricey? Sure...but what isn't in this hobby?
