Free Hippo Tang

Here's catch #1 - he has Ich
Catch #2- you have to get him out of my tank yourself without moving my rock

I QT'd him and used Coppersafe and he still got Ich when I put him in the DT. None of my other fish have shown any signs, only this guy and it's usually only a spot or two that I battle with garlic and ginseng. I know that doesn't cure Ich but it keeps it at bay for a little while. I know I have to let the DT go fallow eventually to get rid of the Ich but I need some time to set up another QT tank since all the fish won't fit in the one I currently have. Anyway this tang will be too big for my tank at some point anyway so I would like to find a good home for him. He's a good looking fish and eats like a pig...he just needs another QT stay to get rid of the Ich. If you have a trap I think that would work since he's a little piggy.

Catching a hippo without moving rock had got be to be almost impossible.

I'll gladly take him and treat him with Cupramine in a hospital tank but Captain is right.... you're not going to catch him without moving most or all of the rock. And since I hate aquascaping my own tanks so much, there's no way I would volunteer to do someone else's. Good luck!

Yeah I understand , that's why he's free :-) Ugh..guess I'm going to have to do the dirty work of catching him and maybe I can trade him at the LFS

if the only available food is in the trap...you should be able to get the fish in a day or 2....leave the trap in "24/7"...always works for me, and friends that borrow the trap

Once he gets comfortable the ich should clear up. When I first got my flame wrasse pair in they got ich the next day, I only treated with garlic and once they got settled it cleared up. Is anyone in the tank bothering it at all, how long has he been in there?

he is like 3" and I've had him for about 3 months. Nobody bothers him, he seemed so happy and at home when I put him in the DT. He's always out and about..even right now I'm trying to catch him and as soon as I sit down to rest he's out taunting me lol

I was able to catch my clownfish with a trap I made. I put the trap in at night when the lights were out. There's a hole in the top of the trap i would squirt food in and as Albano said when they're hungry enough they'll go in there. It took 3 days but it worked. The other method I read about before making a trap was if you have a huge pump and enough buckets you can make a shallow spot in the sandbed and pump the tank out. All the fish will end up in the shallow spot and you can take your pick. Then of course quickly refill the tank any coral should be fine. Not that I tried it but it sounds good. Good luck.

Hippo shouldn't be in a 75. He will be constantly stressed and prone to ich breakout. Better to get him out. Good luck

if he's using a soda bottle trap...sounds like a small hippo (3") ..not to mention that he ALREADY said it will be too big, at some point!

plus 1... i have removed 2 blue tangs from other folks large tanks, the last being a 210... fish trap with nori or whatever in it, could be quick, could take a little longer, but completely possibly... if i was looking for a blue, id come catch him for you

GL finding him a good home... and its very possible to catch him...
