Finally got rid of bio wheels. Now what??
Do most reefers on here that don't run a sump just use power heads and a good hang on back skimmer with live rock? I finally took out my Emperor 350's i had in there cause they kept splashing water on my halides. Also will my reef octopus act as my only mechanical filtration now? Should i aim one of the powerheads at the skimmers intake to better help with mechanical filtration? The tank is a 75g with 2 powerheads one is rated at 950 and the other 750gph. The skimmer is a Reef Octopus model otp-2000. Before and after pics. The last one is what the tank looks like now.

Without a sump you will need really good circulation to keep everything suspended so the skimmer can remove it Also do your regular water changes. Maybe look into some tunze 6025's or some Korialla's powerheads you are able to aim them for better circulation, magnets are better holders.

I would leave one of the HOB filters on the tank without the biowheel attached. Just stick a bag of carbon and a bag of gfo in it.

Granular ferric oxide, good for removing phosphate.

Also noticing that there arent as many bubbles in the water since the biowheels arent splashing down into the water. Is what i meantioned above adequate for aerating my water?

I just moved to a sump set up. Before, I had a hob filter running carbon and gfo in 2 seperate filter bags no bio wheel, hob skimmer, a heater, and 2 powerheads. Worked great, just too cluttered. I'd suggest thinking about a sump, especially for a tank that size. It'll increase water volume, allow a place to grow macroalgae, unclutter the dispaly tank. Ultimately help stabilize the system. Looks like a 10 or 20 gallon wouldfit great in your stand.

Thanks skidoc and moondoggy. Hey Skidoctor, what did you use to keep the hang on back filter from splashing water up onto your lights? Also now that the water isnt splashing on the surface creating all those oxygen bubbles where is my oxygen coming from now. Those water circulators create a great current but is that producing oxygen for my fish and nems?
