The velocity pumps are dead quiet, but the price you pay is pretty significant heat transfer into the water. They are HOT little buggers.

I would recommend not using the 55g as a sump, that is what I am currently using for my 120g and I hate it. Too narrow and too tall. 40br have great dimensions for sumps and are only 8 gallons less if you do the math.

Anywho, just my two cents.

Good luck with the rest of the build!

I'm in a COLD basement in a COLD part of the world, so i'm actually really ok with the extra heat but I am going to watch it carefully come summer.

Yep skipped the 55 and instead using a 150 gallon rubbermaid!! Made the same assessment after looking at it for a bit.

The garage is playing host to a few buckets of rock that is getting the bleach / acid / LC treatment.

Thanks man we're both pretty jacked to really kick this thing into high gear and get it moving. With one of the 3 LED pendants built and being used over the biocube currently things are moving quickly now!!

tested phosphate in mixing tank with rock today and they came to .02 ppm. Less than my biocube that is running.

Dry as a bone.
I'm not criticizing but are you going to change the baffles in that sump doesn't seem like theirs any room for overflow/backup IMO I would lower the baffles about 5 or 6 inches. Nice build I'm subscribed, cant wait to see the hole in the wall.

Sold that sump a while back, working a surprise for the actual sump, and trust me it'll have plenty of room for power-off events
