No android app?

Is there really no android app right now? I have the problem with my galaxy skyrocket where if my phone shuts off I need to delete and re-download the app to get it working again. I had to do that today and there is no app on the market. Looked for aquanotes and its gone along with searching for apex...Tell me this is not right..

just read he took it down...this really sucks...I cant just get to the web controller since I have a wondering IP. If something is wrong while I a gone then I have no way to shut it off or do something manually. This was the whole point of getting the apex.

Try Ken Argo's TankManager. It's not an app, it's browser based but gives you graphs and outlet control. kenargo dot com.

Just tried setting it up the same way I set up the app and I am not able to connect to it.

If I recall, you use your hostname or public IP address without 'http://' when you configure it. Other than that, get the port correct, username and password and it should connect.

I think there were two versions, use TankManager2.

I put in my no-ip.info address in tank manager2 and still a no go..I have the right Port set and all.. I had no issues connecting with the android app..Now I am back to problems and it makes my system obsolete if I can't actually access it.

Geez, give it a rest. This stuff works, you just don't have something configured properly.

First, make sure you actually can still access your controller from outside your home network on a good ole PC. Have a friend try or go to a Starbucks and try it. If that works then you know your address, port, router config, Apex config are all good. My guess is that won't work and you'll have to fix that before you can go any further.

My Guess is that your Apex web server locked up and you need to reboot the Apex.

And the Android app used to do that to my razr so I just did a factory reset on the phone and the first thing I installed was the app.

Ok I will give it a rest and stop trying to figure out my issue. I am sorry it is a bother to you to ask a question on a forum about a APEX issue I am having. Last time I checked this was the specific place to ask these questions. Also, yes, it does make my system obsolete if I can't access it from outside the home, this is one of the main reasons we buy this system. Yes, I can still access it outside of the network when I know the IP.. The problem is the wondering IP address. I have input everything into the fields the appropriate way. Everything in my router and APEX setup is the same in taskmanager2. Port is the same, host is the same, and all other settings.

Thanks I will look at the rebooting the apex, not sure if that is the case since I am still able to access the apex outside of the network if I know the IP address. Just when I am not home the IP can change at any time and I have no way of knowing what it is. Thats why I setup the No-ip system, It worked great, but now on taskmanager2 it just wont take.

I'm FAR from being an IT guy, but without a static IP, I believe you will experience your problem. Have you tried http://dyn.com/ (or something similiar)to get a static IP?

I've been doing networking for 25 years, and I am wondering what you mean by "wondering" IP address.

Yes, I can still access it outside of the network when I know the IP.. The problem is the wondering IP address.

This makes no sense to me... please elaborate. Do you mean an IP address is dynamic and it's changing? If so, then WHICH IP address - the Apex's, or your router's WAN/Internet address?

As aquamanic indicated, the app or TankManager probably isn't the problem - the problem is most likely a network configuration issue.

"This sucks" and "what gives" are not conducive to getting help here; try giving us SPECIFIC information. Post screen shots of your Apex network settings, your router's port forwarding and status pages, and your no-ip hostname settings. Are you running the no-ip software on a computer?

I will get screen shots up..You are right when you say the IP changes. I am using DSL and the IP coming into the modem will be say 76.234.546 then by the end of the day the IP will end up being 68.111.312. I was on the phone with tech support through APEX and he setup the apex and router to allow access to it outside of the home. It works when I know the IP address, but as you say with the dynamic changing IP I had to setup the no-ip address which was suggested by the forum and it worked out great. Sorry to be confusing with the wondering IP term, I thought that was what it was called. This is what the APEX tech guy called it.

Ok, now we're getting something to go on. You didn't answer my last question about no-ip software. You can skip the other info I asked for from the Apex and router. We need to focus on the dynamic DNS (no-ip) stuff.

Yes, this was the issue I was having. I setup the No-ip to combat it and it worked for me. I have a DYN.com setup, but could never get it to work properly with my router.

Yes, I am running no-ip on a spare computer that is always on and updating no-ip every 5 minutes.

If you go to Google right now and type in 'what's my ip' in the search field, it will show you your current external facing IP address.

Then go into no-IP, login and somewhere in there it will do the same for you.

Are those addresses the same?

If not, then your update client on your PC is not updating the no-IP system like you think.

OK, then you need to focus on your router settings.

Specifically, how do you access your controller when you're in your home?

Also, PM me your no-IP hostname you setup and let me see what I get (I don't want your userid or password, just the hostname).

Problem solved. Wyatttroa's network was configured fine. TankManager wasn't working because he was putting 'www' in front of his no-ip hostname. Once that was fixed, and the cache was cleared, it started working.

He's still looking for an Android app, but for now he has remote access.

Life is good.

Alan
