New torch and weird reaction to TLF revive
I picked up a couple new corals from another hobbiest. He lived about a hour away (just giving all details), the salinity was off quite a bit (4 ppt), so I choose to drip acclimate a little slower. Starting water volume was 1/2 gal (and along with the torch was a hammer (2h) and a Duncan (7h), I added revive dip to he water at about 50% (1 cap full) and dripped in another 1/3G from my tank over a 45 minute time frame, then sped up the drip the last 15 minutes and added another capful. (still 50% strength), I let it sit another 15 minutes and agitated the water, I noticed theorch sliming, but his is e weird thing, there was a white film wrapped alongh heads, it felt like maybe a wet paper towel, but didn't tear, I pulled it all off an was able to hold it in my hand, it wasn't so much slime as it ran out of my hands, it almost felt like dried superglue you peel off your hands after glueing to plugs? Sounds strange, well it was? Did I leave it in revive too long even though at 1/4 dose 80% of the time and the last 15 mins at 1/2 strength? I've never experienced this? Also he duncan and hammer in the same dip/acclimation container didn't show these symptoms? Weird?
Ive also Expoxied the torch next too (in same pocket area) as my other small two head hammer and three head toadstool as both of my lfs's and a couple other area reefers have them all clustered together as one, I read this is fine, but thought I might as open the same thread for opinions. Thanks in advance for your comments. -John |

Well, whatever it was, no idea, but the torch is open (3-4" tentacles) and swaying all over with the not so gentle movement in my 50cube provided via 2 mp10's.
Any comments on the torch and frogspawn and hammer sharing the same area. The intent was to create a larger multi head colony by assembling multiple smaller heads. And have a hybrid that co exist's with the three providing the contrasting colors and shapes? I know its not uncommon for the hammers and toad's to be in the same homemade cluster, and I've seen the torch and the hammer together, so Im hoping that this all works. The neon green of the hammer, the peach and green of the toad, along with the brown with bright yellow tips of the torch sure does look good, and the clowns that lost their RTBA seem to be sharing time hosting the torch, a specific toad head (their are 4 toad heads) and occasionally a 7 headed duncan (in a different area). Fingers crossed. Hopefully my experience with the silicon type rings that I pealed off the torch heads after revive during acclimation will help someone else that experiences it, it did nothing to mine at least? Too bad no picture to help everyone. -John |

most importantly, torch is doing fine.
I only dosed 1/2 dose diluting to 1/4 dose concentration the first 45 minutes, and then added enough (increased water volume brought dose to 1/4 dose over the 45 minutes) to equal a half dose for the last 15 minutes. I just figured that at lower concentrations I could stretch the time. Guess they add directions and I should know them. I need to get a new bottle, my bottle broke and my solutions was transfered to another black plastic canning jar. Like I said, torch is doing well, but I guess I will choose to aclimate fully next time, and then add the revive at full dose for just the last 10 minutes or so. ![]() Thanks man. -John |
