Elegance...on sand or rocks???

Long story short, have had an elegance for 6 months...doing awesome, polyp is huge...skeleton is great. Upgrading from a 55 to a 120, it is currently in the sand...is it possible to put them in the rocks?

it's quite large too...probably 9 inches across when fully extended.

In my experience they do better on the sand. The rocks can tear their tissue and cause infections. Also if it is doing well on the sand why change. If it's not broke don't fix it.

I keep pushing my elegance further and further into the rocks and off the sand as it grows and utterly obliterates anything around it. I've had this thing since it was the size of a tennis ball........fully open now, with the pumps off, it's pushing football size! The tenticles do brush against the rocks, but it's a gentle flow and I have found it doesn't mind. At all.

I read in the wild elegance can be found in all sorts of environments from mud to rock. As long as the flow is gentle and can't tear or damage the polyp, I don't see any reason you can't put it in the rocks. You'll know pretty quickly if it's unhappy where it is.

Thanks all, I may give it a try...I have plenty of space for it, I just have a perfect spot for it where it wont sting other corals. I hope it will survive the transfer.

I wouldn't worry. If it's healthy, Elegance are a lot tougher than people give them credit for. Mine has survived two moves and three tank changes. I've had it for over 5 years and it has taken everything I could throw at it. It's Indonesian, too, so go figure.
