Rio 2100?

I was wondering if any of you have experience with a Rio 2100 as a return pump? I bought a used tank and it came with it for that purpose. It seems pretty good in the sink, but of course, that is just a sink. Let me know.

THanks

I have the Rio Plus 3100. I used it for about 5 months as a return pump for a prior tank, a 110 gal. When I upgraded to my current 150 gallon, it now acts as a pump for my remote refugium. It has been running continuously for 2 years. It is quiet and efficient. I've taken it down for routine maintenance and cleaning. After an overnight soak in vinegar, it is as good as new. Granted, this is not the exact same pump as the one you are asking about, but since it is made by the same company and is the same type pump only that it is the 3100, I would still highly recommend the Rio Plus 2100 for you.

Great Bang for the buck pumps. I have lots of them (different models) that do different things - 1 stirs kalk, 1 fluidizes calc, 1 fluidizes sand filter, 1 creates flow in outdoor sump, 1 creates flow for 2 story surge tank and 1 keeps detritus from settling in primary pump.

They are easy to maintain, and if you do the maintenance they last a long time. And the flow out of the higher model pumps is just amazing.

I use a Rio 2100 return on my 56gal. Can't speak on how long they will last but mine has been running for 5 months without any problems. Turn it off and on when feeding and always kicks right in.

rio 2100

ok i have hit disaster with this pump!!!! i was using the rio 2100 for my skimmer and last night i noticed the skimmer wasn't running so i un pluged it let it sit for about 10 min pluged it back in and up and running then an hour later the whole house smelled like an electrical fire there was an oily looking slick on top of the water in the sump and the fish were floating on their sides. I was able to easily catch all of the fish and put them in a hospital tank ( everyone made it through the day ) and have at least 6 lbs of carbon in the tank and did about a 10% water change ( ro/di unit is slow) overall water volume is about 200 gal but i thought this was an epoxy filled sealed unit with no chance of leakage. Not the case. 24 hours later the room still smells like electric fire. The pump has been great for years but this really makes me question the product
