Exclamation P.h., ***!

What is the best way to raise the Ph level? I am at a consistent 7.7-7.8. When I dose for Alk I get an instant rise, but it's only temporary...very temporary...like 10 min.

Thanks!!

Fresh Air, Mate... CO2 build up is the most common cause of low pH. Opening up the windows and letting some fresh air in would be the simplest fix. Or you can find a way to run your skimmer air line to pull from the outside.

I would check your pH broke (if your running one, which seems so) before you start trying to bring up the pH.

Sometimes getting freash air is harder then it is. Look into "CO2 Scrubber with Soda Lime"

I dose kalk in my ATO water. This keeps the Ph at around 8.2-8.3 and alk at around 9 as long as I keep up on the dose and refilling the ATO.

this is a sure way to remedy your problem.. dont look at the PH. just be worried if its above 8.5 and below 7.2. Dont spend money or think about moving you tank outside. every reefer goes through this PH Worrying phase, it really doesnt matter if its not 8.3.

I agree that pH at 7.8 is fine. 7.7 might be low enough to cause some minor issues, but I wouldn't spend a lot of money trying to raise it, personally. Limewater can help in some cases, but your tank seems to have a lot of aeration, which might mean that only fresher air (via an air exchange, a carbon dioxide scrubber, or a line to the skimmer from outside) would be likely to have much effect.

So I simply attached an line tube to my skimmer and ran the tube out from under my tank stand to an open area near a window that I frequently open and the Ph have come up! It's running a consistent 8.01 to 8.05. I can't believe this worked! Fresh air is all it took! Cheapest fix ever!
