Swap the 4 whites on yours to the red and greens thenI take it?

What would the overall colour temp look like with this config? Also wondering wether to swap 2 of the blues or purples for uv....?

So I went to the LFS and they let me bring home a cheap chinesse unit to try. they told me to set it up over my tank and see if I like it. If I didn't just bring it back for store credit. I figured what the hell if I didn't like it at least I would have $335 in store credit which all of us fellow reefers know that we can burn through that in 20 minutes at the store.

So any way she handed me an unmarked brown box and away I went less $335. When I got home I was surprised to see how little info was actually included with the unit in the box. It was bad enough that there was no branding on the outside of the box, but nothing on the inside as well. Not an address, phone number, or warranty card, just a plain white sheet of paper with some generic instructions printed on it.

At that point I hand pretty much decided to run away from the unit as fast as possible but I decided to set it up over the tank just to see what all the hype is about with LEDs. I was actually impressed with the amount of light such a little box could put out but seeing as how my tank is an 8ft'er I would still need 4 units. Although spending close to $1,500 wouldn't kill my budget, I just thought it was a very bad investment considering I don't think I would have any recourse if there was a problem with the boxes. I was wondering what your thoughts are and what kind of info you have found inside the shipping boxes. Are you guys not afraid of the fact that alot of these chinese unit will never be honored under any kind of warranty? Here's some pics of the unit I bought.

They have warranties. How good they are depends on what company you go with.

I would return the light anyway, because that one only costs $160 shipped directly to you from China within 3 days, it isn't even one of the better dimmable ones, and it doesn't have optics. I would absolutely tell you to return it if the LFS won't honor its warranty, because they are otherwise making +100% profit on a light you could buy directly. The newest ones have built in controllers and LCD screens, and still only cost $320 shipped direct.

Some of the more used companies are Evergrow Lighting, Twilight Group, Greensun, and Gehl.

The lights from Twilight are not the IT2040 from Evergrow. They are very different. They do not dim automatically, have no adjustable hanging kit, no remote, no moonlights, and the leds are weaker (imo).

Hey bhaz what color is best to use for the moons? 450 or 460?

Also can the blues on the moon channel run full power, so you can include them in your what and blue ratio? Or do they only run at a low percent at all times for the moon effect?

The fixture I ordered from twilight has 3 dimmers/timers. The moonlights are the same leds as the rest so its up to you to run them when you want and how bright you want them.

Bhaz along with this ? From before ^^^

I have another lol I've been thinking of going with two of the 24" units (through reef breeders) my ratio at the moment goes like this

28 royal blues.12 total mixed white (6. 65-75k... 4.10k... 2.WW 3500k) 4 violets 2 green 2 reds = 48 plus 3 moon lights = 51

Do you think this will be close to the 20k look I'd like? Its a 2.3 blue to 1 white ratio ... I remember you saying a 2 to one ratio could get. 20k ONLY IF all the white were 10-12k so I figured being a tad over 2 to 1 ratio wouldn't hurt since I ended up using warm whites and 65k whites ... let me know your opinion plz I plan on ordering asap

I recently started liking reef breeders cause you can get the same great lights that ever grow makes yet get a 2 year warranty where they will cover shipping both ways and there in states so gives me a little more piece of mind if something was to go wrong. And its not a whole lot more money wise.

You also can customize it for a small fee which is awesome!

What do you mean they do not dim automatically? they have an lcd and it says lcd dimmable...

I dont think going with reefbreeders for $319 is worth it for almost double the price of the twilight for $175. I dont need a remote and even if the LED's are weaker, noone here seems to be running their LED's at 100% anyway.

Here is a layout I'm thinking of using. Please let me know if this will look ok, i'm going for a 14-18k look. I forgot to put the violet on the key but those are 420nm.

Here it is just typed out on their form.... It looks like the moon lights have been switched out to the outer sides now from the earlier models.

I cant seem to find the list anywhere of the available colors and which ones to use over others, does anyone still have that?
